New York Governor Admits State Legal Targeting Was Only at Donald Trump

New York Governor Kathy Hochul has admitted the lawfare deployed against the Trump organization and President Donald Trump himself was a specific plan for his targeting and any other business interests or people within New York should not be concerned.

It’s a rather brazen admission all things considered; however, if it changes the public outlook as the various New York lawfare cases against President Trump continue, is yet to be determined.

(Via The Hill) – New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) addressed New York business owners in a new interview and told them there was “nothing to worry about” after former President Trump was hit with a $355 million fine and a ban on conducting business in New York for three years.

Hochul joined John Catsimatidis on “The Cats Roundtable” on WABC 770 AM, where she was asked if other New York businesspeople should be worried that if “they can do that to the former president, they can do that to anybody.”

“I think that this is really an extraordinary, unusual circumstance that the law-abiding and rule-following New Yorkers who are business people have nothing to worry about, because they’re very different than Donald Trump and his behavior,” Hochul responded.

Anyone with two functioning brain cells knows it won’t stay that way. Once politicians know they can get exorbitant amounts of money from billionaires and successful corporations just by making up laws and finding corrupt judges they will do it again and again and again. It won’t just be political enemies, they will have found a bottomless source of grabbing someone else’s money.

Yes, Hochul’s comments will be exhibit 1, and by the way, what an asinine comment from the state’s top executive!

Smashmouth partisanship politics as only the democrat party would dare to engage.

Ironically, Eliot Spitzer eventually took over his father's real estate business, where I'm sure he does the same valuations of his properties as President Trump was accused of doing.

Andrew Cuomo is currently laying low, coming out recently to support Israel.

Who in their right mind would believe Hochul’s assurances? NY Dems are worse than the mafia. Actually, the business community would rather deal with the mafia.

QUESTIONER: Should New York businesspeople should be worried that if “they can do that to the former president, they can do that to anybody"?

GOVERNOR HOCHUL: I think that this is really an extraordinary, unusual circumstance that the law-abiding and rule-following New Yorkers who are business people have nothing to worry about, because they’re very different than Donald Trump and his behavior.

QUESTIONER: Really?

GOVERNOR HOCHUL: Of course. Unless some business person does something the New York government decides is objectionable in the same way Trump's actions were. Then we would go after them in just the same way.

QUESTIONER: What kinds of things would the New York government find objectionable.

GOVERNOR HOCHUL: That is a difficult question with many nuances, so I would have trouble answering that without specifics.

QUESTIONER: How about if I run for office, and the New York government doesn't think I should?

GOVERNOR HOCHUL: Again, I would need specifics, but we would do what is needed to protect Democracy.

QUESTIONER: What is needed to protect "Democracy"? Would that include excluding someone from an election by convicting them, whom YOU think should not be allowed to run for office?

GOVERNOR HOCHUL: I would need specifics, but yes. We would want to do what we think is right for the people. Isn't that why people elected us?

If a home represented as having 3600 sq ft when it’s only 1300. That could be a problem. In residential., it generally happens when it’s land that’s misrepresented. And yes, sellers and agents get sued.

A lie is a fraud. Fraud becomes a crime when it is a “knowing misrepresentation of the truth or concealment of a material fact to induce another to act to his or her detriment” (Black’s Law Dictionary). In other words, if you lie in order to deprive a person or organization of their money or property, you’re committing fraud.

As much as I despise what NY is doing to Trump, this is not a Bill of Attainder - that would require actual legislation with his name in it, as being subject to a law that no one else (except anyone else named) would be subject. That’s not what we have here. No, this is targeted litigation, as evidenced by what this idiot governor stated. That, alone, should get this result overturned.

It is also not an ex post facto law - that would also require a law to be passed stating that (in this case), it is illegal to over-value your property when making an application for a loan, and then prosecuting someone for doing such before that law became a law. That’s not what is going on here - what IS going on is that NY has taken a pre-existing fraud statute and stretched it beyond recognition. It is an arbitrary and capricious use of that law, as it has never been enforced in this manner before, despite literally thousands of loans obtained each year in NY State by real estate investors doing exactly what Trump did. Further, no one was actually defrauded - the banks got their money back, including interest, so how could he have possibly committed fraud? Where’s the victim here?

I agree with you that this was a complete travesty of justice, but disagree as to why.

But not as a free society. At some point corrupt officials will be tried for their high crimes, or become Draconian (or Orwellian).
