Thug cop on a power trip. The settlement should be paid out of the police pension fund.

Hey if Bite Off can call President Netanyahu an asshole, then I guess R. Anthony Rupp III can call a cop that also.

Nah! The loss of qualified immunity means any settlement would have to come out of the cop's own pockets, which is a much, much better outcome.

They lost qualified immunity, it’s coming out of their own personal pockets.

I believe there are already other precedents that strip police officers of qualified immunity in such cases. There are some I think that even specify that officers can expect taunts, and as professionals, are expected to suffer even "fighting words."

Just asking for id or any detention requires probable cause for thinking the detainee has or is about to commit a crime. Insulting a cop is not a crime.

It's amazing to see how many cops are itching to escalate a situation so they can use force.

Wow, cited for yelling at a cop. How about arresting the million who did the same thing in 2020?

The VERY LARGE judgment should be paid out of the abusive public servant’s pocket first and raid the police pension fund only after bankrupting the power-tripping thug.

I am thinking most cops are like these chumps. Back the blue, till it happens to you. I don’t hate cops. I hate bad cops, which is most of them.

I know I’m ancient but there was a time when a grown up man, driving without lights and nearly striking people would have simply admitted his mistake and apologized

Fire, convict, bankrupt, and jail the cop.

Unlawful detainment. A person can say whatever he wants if he’s not already under arrest.

Gets called an asshole and promptly confirms the diagnosis. All of this would go away if we could start taking these ego-tripping cops out back of the wood shed and beat them with a rubber hose to within an inch of their lives. Word would spread.

So cops have qualified immunity to protect them while reacting to anything that interferes with their comfort and repose?

What’s next, a penumbra which entitles them to donuts?

Qualified immunity for police, agents, prosecutors and judges is an odious anti constitutional reality.

This is why the police state agencies and DOJ are out of control.

As for local police, they aren’t typically as bad at violating due process but they’re not that good.

We basically are being ruled by something similar to a Vichy French type of government subservient to globalist interests .

I don’t think it’s any mystery s to how local police will act in SHTF scenarios. They will follow orders just as the Vichy French police did and they will comply with orders to send deplorable to the camps
