Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont (D) unveiled a plan on Friday to cancel medical debt for residents of the Constitution State, in what would be a first-of-its-kind initiative.
The plan was first unveiled on ABC’s “Good Morning America.” According to ABC, the plan includes using $6.5 million in funds from the American Rescue Plan Act to cancel $1 billion of medical debt in collaboration with a nonprofit that buys and eliminates debt.
Those who are eligible for the cancellation include families that have debt equivalent to 5 percent or higher of annual income.
“This is not something they did because they were spending too much money, this is something because they got hit with a medical emergency,” Lamont said of those struggling with medical debt. “They should not have to suffer twice, first with the illness, then with the debt.”

Commie is as commie does.
The cost of everything medical is about to skyrocket if this goes through. Hospitals will have to charge even more insane prices to cover the costs of dopey ned’s jubilee.

I thought O’Bastard Care fixed this for all time. Didn’t Pelosi say we could all quit our jobs to become poets once freed from the tyranny of health care debts?
My wife works for CT based health system. The amount of bad debt they had to write off a few years ago was in the hundreds of millions of dollars. In the urban centers of CT, they don’t pay their bills anyway.
And it costs those of us who do.
How about cutting taxes (obviously they’re taking too much) and giving refunds to the taxpayers instead. It’s not his money to spend on others’ bills.
I thought everybody is required to have insurance? We fixed this back in the Obama days.
Is “residents” code for illegals?
White residents too?
What’s yours is mine and what’s mine is mine.
Yes....if you change your name to Juan Garcia.
Lamont you big dummy!
This sounds like they plan to use federal funds to buy and retire medical debt that’s already in collections.
They aren’t canceling anything.
A lot of medical facilities in the Southwest have been going out of business for decades - mostly due to illegal immigration. (Illegals use it as their Primary Care.)
But how do they calculate bad debt? A hospital charges Medicare 10k for a service, and 12k to a private insurer, and 50k to the unfortunate person with no insurance or bad insurance. If that person cannot or will not pay, did the hospital really write off a debt of 50k? They certainly did lose 50k.
I am a person with bad insurance, and medical debt for half my income. I should be able to negotiate it down to a fifth or a quarter of what it presently is, if there is any justice, but I don’t know.
They certainly did NOT lose 50k in costs.
He thinks he’s generous because he’s giving away other peoples money.
He’s not being generous, he’s buying votes.
Ct has become a very large insane asylum. We must apologize to the Massholes next door.
2. It runs in the family.
