Senator James Lankford (R-OK) said on this week’s broadcast of “Fox News Sunday” that his Republican colleagues criticizing the bipartisan border deal are doing so because “it’s a presidential election year.”
Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) said, “This bill normalizes 5,000 people coming in a day.”
Lankford said, “Right now these internet rumors is all the people are running on. It would be absolutely absurd for me to agree to 5,000 people a day. This bill focuses on getting us to zero illegal crossings a day. There’s no amnesty. It increases the number of border patrol agents, increases asylum officers. It increases detention beds so we can quickly detain and then deport individuals. It ends catch and release. It focuses on additional deportation flights out. It changes our asylum process so that people get a fast asylum screening at a higher standard, and then get returned back to their home country. This is not about letting 5,000 people in a day. This is the most misunderstood section of this proposal.”

Well, like it or not, there is NOTHING in the bill about letting in 5,000 people per day. What the bill says, instead, is 35,000 per week.
Cruz is an IDIOT for claiming 5,000 per day.

Does the bill REALLY do what Lankford says it does? I haven’t seen that before. Where can you get an honest assessment of the bill? I saw the sliding scale of numbers of illegals allowed to sneak in the other day and it was awful.
No serious nation would ever pass a law saying “X illegal aliens are allowed to sneak into our country every day.”
How can one new law make it legal for aliens to sneak in direct contravention of other existing laws that make it illegal to sneak in? Does the new law repeal provisions of other laws that made it illegal to sneak in? Or do they just conveniently ignore that fact?
Any immigration bill that is “bipartisan” screws the USA and screws Republicans. Historically, there is NO DOUBT about that.
We DO NOT need another law. There are plenty of immigration laws. All we need is the will to enforce them. We all know why the Uniparty wants the wide-open border.
It was a mistake to send a preacher to Congress. Always too gentle and sensitive. Such types need to stay with the women and children in wagons. Let real men defend against the Indian attack.
Lankfor's end can't come soon enough but his election is a long way off in 2028 when he needs to be exposed for the pin headed, carpet bagger from Dallas that he is. He took 64% of the vote in '22. Surely someone can run against him that would be a much better choice and win.

Cruz is right, and Lankford is wrong. The bill mandates a border closing only after average daily crossings hit 5,000 over seven days, or 8,500 in a single day.
So you can have 5,000 illegals come in every day, forever. That’s 1,825,000 illegals a year, forever. But wait. What about that condition, “5,000 over seven days”? No problem. Just report that only 4990 crossed every once in awhile.
Langford is no conservative.
