America Is Planning to Withdraw From Syria—and Create a Disaster

Since Hamas’s brutal attack against Israel on Oct. 7 and the resulting Israeli military campaign in the Gaza Strip, tensions and hostilities across the Middle East have reached fever pitch. And with such a complex regional crisis playing out, it should not come as a surprise that the Biden administration is reconsidering its military priorities in the region.

It should be cause for significant concern, however, that this could involve a full withdrawal of U.S. troops from Syria. While no definitive decision has been made to leave, four sources within the Defense and State departments said the White House is no longer invested in sustaining a mission that it perceives as unnecessary. Active internal discussions are now underway to determine how and when a withdrawal may take place.

get out like Trump ordered but was disobeyed

Trump was not disobeyed. The DoD, along with some Hawks like Lindsey Graham and allies Israel and Jordan, convinced him to stay in the locations they now defend.

Trump withdrew our troops from Northern Syria, which allowed Turkey to invade and push the Kurds we had been supporting about 20 miles south. This is now the Turkish occupied "safe zone" along their southern border.

Probably no vacuum. Assad will simply take back control of the areas we used ISIS and our rebels to wrest away.

I remember the war harpies and Israel-firsters telling us that ISIS was now our friends on Syria. Hence we were killing them in in Iraq but friends again for the Syrian CLOWN HOUSE.

Deploying troops as tripwires and pawns for Military Complex Inc. is evil. So is the crypto-trash that logs onto FR to support it.

It makes people mad, but this Assad isn’t a bad dude. Especially not in middle eastern terms. He is the wild-eyed tolerant freethinker of the Arab world.
I defy anyone to show me a leader there more liberal (in the classical sense) than him.

He was an eye doctor in London when his dad died and by all accounts would have preferred just to have his happy life.
In Assad’s Syria you could drink locally made wine, a woman could marry, divorce, get an education, have a job, dance in a swimsuit to music on Latakia beach, check into a hotel, and all without a male relative’s permission.
You could be a Christian, a Sunni, a Shia, an Alawite, a Kurd, and yes, even a Jew at one of the two Synagogues still left in Damascus.

Compare him to any other middle eastern leader. It isn’t close. And that is who we targeted for removal by launching and supplying ISIS until they got out of hand.

It’s retarded. And evil. Retarded evil...

If we go there will be trouble, and if we stay it will be double.

We need to leave and probably never should have been there but if we leave now, it creates a vacuum.

The Russians or the Turks can take over. Our troops are sitting ducks. Iranian proxies are attacking them.

When it’s necessary to fight a war, it should be done with a massive overwhelming force so it is over quickly and there is no doubt as to who won.

We did that in the '80s and the early '90s. Grenada. Desert Storm. Panama.
