CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla.—The first U.S. lunar lander in more than 50 years rocketed toward the moon Monday, launching private companies on a space race to make deliveries for NASA and other customers.
Astrobotic Technology’s lander caught a ride on a brand new rocket, United Launch Alliance’s Vulcan. The Vulcan streaked through the Florida predawn sky, putting the spacecraft on a roundabout route to the moon that should culminate with an attempted landing on Feb. 23.
“So, so, so excited. We are on our way to the moon!” Astrobotic chief executive John Thornton said.
The Pittsburgh company aims to be the first private business to successfully land on the moon, something only four countries have accomplished. But a Houston company also has a lander ready to fly, and could beat it to the lunar surface, taking a more direct path.
“First to launch. First to land is TBD,” to be determined, Mr. Thornton noted.
NASA gave the two companies millions to build and fly their own lunar landers. The space agency wants the privately owned landers to scope out the place before astronauts arrive while delivering NASA tech and science experiments as well as odds and ends for other customers. Astrobotic’s contract for the Peregrine lander: $108 million.

Another approach that was proposed by the US and Soviet space programs a few decades ago was to place habitat modules on the surface and bury them in mounds of lunar dust.

My wife forced me(married 27 years) to watch one of these videos yesterday on Rumble. The most recent showed that AI perceived that the films from one of the moon landings was fake. That this was pointed out to Putin when he was reviewing them recently.
That they faked them at some air base in NM.
My wife is driving me crazy with these fake moon landing conspiracy videos.

The “moon landing never happened” crowd—raises hand—are not claiming that unmanned landings never happened.
The claim is that the Apollo manned landings in the late 1960s and early 1970s never happened.
Big difference.
Those first astronauts better be fully armed.

Heard the ashes of a presidents and actors are on board. Since the rocket was a Vulcan. I’m guessing Leonard Nimoy’s ashes were on board.

Hey, that’s my cartoon! Well, sort of.
It was made from another cartoon that had a different object being found and a different caption, but I immediately thought of Jackie Gleason sending Alice to the moon. So, I Photoshopped it and I think mine is much funnier.
I wish I had saved the original as well. I did leave the original creator’s signature though and did not add my own.

I never had reason to question the moon landings until the government proved they lie about everything.
