A 10-day waiting period for all gun purchases in Washington state went into effect January 1, 2024.

FOX 13 reported the 10-day waiting period was part of 2023’s House Bill 1143.

The new law also “requires people to go through training before they can buy a gun,” Apple Valley News Now noted.

And this does what exactly? Someone's going to do something horrible. They're going to do it regardless.

Hawaii implemented a law where buyers must be ‘certified’ but HI ‘bungled’ the certification system’s implementation. Thus, no sales.

It must be a new anti-civil rights strategy.

Can we mandate that journalists be certified and they wait 10 days before they publish a story?

A well regulated militia, having completed a state approved training course and waiting 10 days.......

Oh, now c’mon, surely you don’t expect the expanded bureaucracy to do anything in <10 days?

The purpose is to prevent you from defending yourself against an impending threat to life. E.g., (like at my place here in CaCaLand) BLM annonces that they intend to loot and burn two blocks from your house. It is too late to defend your family.

So, if the term “manhood” means anything you need to buy a gun and ammo now.

And the two diverse neighborhoods in Washington state responsible for nearly all violent crime will be safer than ever.

Another thing about waiting periods is that if a person who already owns one or more firearms is subject to a waiting period for a new purchase, they still have access to other firearms in the meantime.

The whole premise of waiting periods is idiotic, anyway. No one rushes to a gun shop “in the heat of passion” and buys a gun. Instead, they grab the nearest object and do their deed. It could be an ashtray, a fireplace poker, a bottle of booze, or what have you.

From a different gun related story:

"Sacramento County Sheriff Jim Cooper cited a statistic that most homicides in Sacramento County that involve a firearm are committed by people who are not legally allowed to have a gun."

I expect that fact would also apply to most any city in Washington State.

Thank you for referencing that article ChicagoConservative27.

"The new law also “requires people to go through training before they can buy a gun,” Apple Valley News Now noted."

Pro-2nd Amendment (2A) patriots, please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't state-mandated gun training arguably a step in the right direction with respect to the militia readiness aspect of 2A?

On the other hand, the 10-day waiting period for buying a gun wrongly weakens the state's constitutionally enumerated, time-sensitive right to defend itself imo.

"Article I, Section 10, Clause 3: No State shall, without the Consent of Congress, lay any Duty of Tonnage, keep Troops, or Ships of War in time of Peace, enter into any Agreement or Compact with another State, or with a foreign Power, or engage in War, unless actually invaded, or in such imminent Danger as will not admit of delay [emphasis added]."

And for the upcoming legislative session, HB 2054 has been pre-filed which would limit one's ability to purchase only one firearm a month.

That'll keep the criminal element at bay.

A 10 day wait and training requirement is definitely a violation of the shall not be infringed portion of the 2A. I suppose this law will be challenged as it marches through injunctions and over turnings on its way to the SCOTUS.

Exactly, this will do no more than all CA’s gun laws. They had another “mass” shooting in LA, to welcome the New Year. I think it was two killed and three shot and linjured. Anyone think that the guns used there were legal? How about the guns that were used to kill those teenagers in the Seattle Anarchist zone during the Summer of Love? They did that and filmed it, were those guns legal? Were those guys arrested?

I believe in WA, having a CCW permit allowed purchase with no additonal wait time or background check.

That was some time ago. Makes sense to me, but I’ll bet it is gone.

A lot of bad things can happen in ten days.

The Kansas Constitution:

§ 4. Individual right to bear arms; armies.
A person has the right to keep and bear arms for
the defense of self, family, home and state, for
lawful hunting and recreational use, and for any
other lawful purpose; but standing armies, in time
of peace, are dangerous to liberty, and shall not be
tolerated, and the military shall be in strict subordination to the civil power.

It doesn’t state a damn thing in there about a ten day waiting period, or what type of firearm I can own, whether it’s a flintlock rifle or an M240.

This is all thanks to Washington’s coastal commiecrats, their moron governor jaydolph dimsley, and little Bobby Ferguson their half-wit attorney general all elected by mail. Spokane just elected a little commie troll as mayor over a solid conservative so that city is heading down the toilet too.

I believe those records are supposed to be destroyed after 90 days. I seriously doubt that is happening.

It’s not. It is intended to infringe upon you rights. Most criminals are prohibited from purchasing a firearm THE LEGAL WAY. So they simply steal one or purchase one on the street.
