Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows has decided Donald Trump is ineligible to appear on the state’s 2024 Republican primary ballot.

The democrat SoS of Maine. Tell me that isn’t a partisan decision?
AG is judge, jury and executioner No due process, no conviction, no appeal. Changing the rules as we go. Shades of 2020.
That’s DOXING.... DON’T DO IT!
Or illannoy where I’m f..cked er I mean stuck.
THIS IS THE INSURRECTION!!!
Wow, one biased leftist gets to tell all the taxpaying citizens of Maine they can’t vote for someone.
Just wow.
“They really do want war.”
Agreed.
3/4 of Maine will be not voting if Trump is off the ballot. The blue areas are Portland south to Kittery, Augusta, Bangor and Lewiston-Auburn. Nice going Maine Democrats...you aren’t a blue state, you are a purple state.
“And no discussion in Congress of federal laws to prevent keeping people off ballots?”
There is no need for federal laws. It is already in the Constitution.
Bellows can’t read: https://theglobalherald.com/news/donald-trump-acquitted-of-inciting-insurrection-in-impeachment-trial-bbc-news/
I thought Maine was a somewhat conservative state.
Mainers love their guns .. Pot too don’t forget which seems to be more important. House and senate run by Dems and a deranged Janet Mills as Governor.
Born and raised in Maine, family still there. I left in 1980.
Probably right..rusty brains.
It really is a cancer. Leftism is a brain cancer that acts like a parasite on society but unlike a parasite that leaves the host strong enough to live so it it can live, leftism has no brake, full throttle on the destruction of the host.
Oh, Shenna (male or female?) just “decided” that, huh? Eliminated the voting rights of millions of people just like that, huh? I see a nice big fat court case coming down the pike in Maine. Talk about election interference...
“ The GOP is a private organization. The Sec of State has no business deciding who can appear on their party’s ballot any more than she can decide who can run for president of the Portland Elk’s club.”
Yes and no. The GOP can decide who their state RNC delegates are committed to in any number of ways - primary, caucus, state and county nominating conventions, etc. If they use a caucus or nominating convention, the Secretary of State has no role. If they use a primary, however, the Secretary of State is charged with insuring the candidates meet any legal qualifications. This is because the primary is run by the state, including printing ballots, providing polling places, counting the votes, etc. The counties actually do most of that, but they do it as political subdivisions of the state.
If Maine were able to keep Trump off the primary ballot, the best bet for the GOP would be to hold a state nominating convention and be done with it. Of course, if they were able to keep Trump off the general election ballot, that would be a much bigger problem.
I did some checking and came up with this: Bellows was told earlier this month by State GOP that if Trump was removed from the ballot the State GOP would switch their selection process to Caucus system and would refuse to recongnize any names placed on a State Ballot!
That’s an opinion, not a court ruling.
This woman obviously has only read the comic book version of the Constitution.
