A total of 77 sailors were on board the large landing ship in the eastern Crimean port of Feodosia when it was targeted by cruise missiles, Russian-language Telegram channel Astra reported. Of these, 33 are missing and 23 people were wounded, with one person killed in the strikes, Astra reported on early on Wednesday...
Using Western-supplied cruise missiles and different types of drones, Kyiv has repeatedly targeted Moscow's naval assets, managing to sink the flagship Moskva in April 2022 and taking out a Russian submarine in September 2023.
During the course of the all-out war in the country, Kyiv has damaged a number of Moscow's landing ships, such as the Minsk, the Saratov and the Olenegorsky Gornyak.
Kyiv's success in denting the Black Sea fleet is an embarrassment and an operational blow to Russia. In the wake of the attack, Britain's defense minister, Grant Shapps, said the Kremlin has lost 20 percent of its Black Sea fleet in the past four months, adding: "Russia's dominance in the Black Sea is now challenged."
Ukraine used cruise missiles to attack the landing ship at around 2:30 a.m. local time (7:30 p.m. ET) on Tuesday, Kyiv's air force said in a statement. Ukrainian officials suggested Western-supplied air-launched Storm Shadow and SCALP missiles were used in Tuesday's attack.

The TRUTH is that the ship was carrying loads of drones, so there were lots of secondary explosions - so big that nearby buildings were damaged and parts of the ship are now found all over the city, buried a yard deep. It's pretty obvious that most of the sailors were killed outright, but Russia can't be honest about that, because that would be admitting that Ukraine was successful
Not a good way to build trust with the military families who are now grieving
Naval warfare has changed. What is happening to the Russians could surely happen to our naval forces bottled up in the Red Sea and Persian Gulf. That is why, rather than seeing gunboat diplomacy in Yemen with out trillion dollar navy, our ships seem to be avoiding confrontation just out of range.
cynical propaganda.
what do you care about grieving Russian families? Aren't you a member of the "Nuke Russia" contingent?
All governments lie, but the old Soviet Union set the bar really high for lying. The Russians are simply carrying on the tradition they perfected,i.e.: Lie about everything, deny everything, etc.
Aren’t our ships being routinely attacked currently and shooting down missiles and drones?
I don’t see why the problem in Yemen is not susceptible to B-52 modulation.
you should focus on Canada. You have a lot of problems.
This article is discussing Russian ships in the Black Sea.
Apparently Russia’s version of Phalanx doesn’t work so well. Or this ship didn’t have it.
They are indeed shooting down very limited numbers of missiles and drones, as are the Ruskies. What happens when the Houthis/Iranians send a swarm of a thousand missiles and drones against a lone destroyer? Our naval brass is answering that question by letting the Houthis get away with stopping container shipping through the Suez Canal.
There is a very good reason why B-52s won’t work (although we regularly overfly B-52s in the area for their intimidation effect). Just check our successes in taking out mobile SCUDS during the Gulf War. We went 0fer. B-52s were available then.
“””What is happening to the Russians could surely happen to our naval forces bottled up in the Red Sea and Persian Gulf.”””
Russian ships are enduring attacks and allied and American ships are both enduring attacks.
Russian ships are burning.
American ships defend themselves
Russia knows full well about helping to supply countries during war.
American naval ships can be SUNK or damaged as readily as Russian ships have been. The Houthis/Iranians are using less than one percent of the missile/drone capability they have. The Ukes have thrown everything they and the Brits have at the Russians. What’s the DC reaction when a U.S. carrier is sunk in the Red Sea or East China Sea?
They sure can be sunk, but they aren’t, while Russia is suffering serious naval losses.
I don’t see the point in trying to divert the topic.
The Russians thought their ships were invulnerable to attack. They found out the hard way they weren’t.
I seriously doubt they thought such a thing.
