The New York City Police Department continues to see a massive wave of retirements and departures, shrinking the force to its smallest in decades, according to the New York Post.
There have already been 2,516 departures from the NYPD this year and recruitment is so slow, and New York City Mayor Eric Adams' budget cuts are so deep, the next five police academy classes have been canceled, according to the report.
The 2023 exodus is the fourth highest total thus far in the past decade and represents a 43% increase over the 2018 total, which is before massive crime influx under Democrat policing reforms kicked in.

Not a real statement, but it's probably coming.
They’ll be less reported crime related to less cops taking reports. Everyone wins.
And how long before the rest of them decide that staying is not worth risking their lives for and resign en mass?
Then all hell will break loose and it will be total anarchy.
Anyone with any sense needs to leave yesterday.

It’s comical how stupid these people are....i have two nephews who are NYPD- they are waiting to get calls from other PD’s to transfer the ef out of the craphole known as NY chitty and the NYPD.
One nephew told us outright- they are told to let the black perps free and arrest the white perps, to make an example of them.
It will probably be argued that it’s white supremacy, because white people don’t want to work as police.

I accept the idea that the Police are hit hard by people leaving the force and by people not wanting to join the force.
But let’s recognize that the US military is having the same problems of retention and recruiting.
Medicine is another field that has this problem.
Also, Education is a field that has this problem.
It’s a big problem in a lot of fields, actually.
Partly it’s demographics — the Baby Boomers are gone and there is no one to replace them.
Additionally, social changes have made a lot of employment areas a nightmare for the workers. So the workers leave.
And the Management and Administrative layers of “leadership” seem filled by people who now have zero aptitude for anything like leadership.
Problems like this don’t fix themselves. And our country lacks the leadership that could step up and provide any sort of solution.
To be fair NYPD another major metro PDs always try to have officers with diverse backgrounds to serve citizens (and get reports, witnesses, etc.,) with those backgrounds.

Considering that with their NYPD experience and certification they can go wherever they want and write their own ticket can you really blame them?

The “officer” seen in my post #7 is not an NYPD officer. He works for the ‘Muslim Community Patrol’, which is a private organization.
Note how his uniform looks like an NYPD uniform ,and how his car is painted like an NYPD car. Why New York City lets them do that is beyond me.
The same thing is going on in the US Armed Forces.
