Number of electric cars sold has PLATEAUED, with inventory piling up and prices slashed - but sales of gasoline vehicles remain strong

Sales of electric vehicles in the US have plateaued even though sales of cars overall remain healthy - suggesting many buyers are in no mood to ditch gasoline models anytime soon.

Over the last six months, overall car sales have been higher than they were for the same months in 2022 or 2021 - when demand for EVs was still increasing.

But in 2023, EV sales during the same period have stalled at around the 100,000- a-month mark following a period of rapid growth.

The reduced demand has seen inventories stock piled, with prices of EVs slashed over the last year.

In October the average new EV went for $52,000, compared to $65,000 twelve months prior.

Gasoline vehicles however remain the most popular choice across the US, with the gas-guzzling Chevrolet Silverado top overall.

Car sales are up two per cent compared to a year ago, despite widespread industrial action in the last few months which ground many plants to a halt in recent months.

The figures have prompted many EV manufacturers to scale back their operations amid apparently waning demand.

Ford and General Motors have both delayed investments, while Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk suggested on the company’s October earnings call that he might slow down.

The billionaire has previously blamed higher interest rates for the stagnation in the EV market, however the comparatively strong sales of vehicles overall suggests there is more at play.

The high price of EVs, which tend to cost more to produce than traditional cars, has been cited in a recent survey by S&P Global Mobility examining customer's hesitation to purchase.

Sales of gas cars might soon increase rapidly as folks fear being pushed into an electric car world. Sellers will perhaps increase the prices knowing that folks are panic buying. Perhaps not, but it seems to be the writing on the wall for now.

We have had THREE new gas stations built in our area in the last two years. Population of 18,347. Another is being built in our local town. Population 3,790 None have electric chargers. Nearest electric charging station is thirty miles away.

That tells me gasoline will be around for quite a while.

Interesting that sixty years ago when our population was 400, we had eight (8) full service gas stations.

Biden has set Federal fuel efficiency standards so high that ICE vehicles will be no more than go-carts.
Under the proposed standards from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, fleet-wide fuel economy for new vehicles would be pushed close to 58 miles per gallon by 2032. That's up from the 49 mpg required by 2026 under the current iteration of the rules.

Thereby they've made EVs the only option.

Biden administration proposes new fuel economy standards, with higher bar for trucks

And they’re doing exactly that in some cities— zoning prohibitions on new or expanded gas stations. This, of course, an idea spawned in the deranged, infantile minds of EV driving libs who want others to suffer the same level of inconvenience they do.

This proves that US consumers are far more intelligent than government bureaucrats.

+++++++++++++

Not sure who said this originally, but as far as gubermint bureaucrats go, we would make a substantial improvement in the competency of congress if we picked the first 535 names out of any phone book and made them our “leaders”.

The quote was from William F. Buckley, Jr.

He “retired” from the CIA to lead the conservative movement.

We were played so badly.

I would agree if you said "the first 535 names picked randomly from any phone book ..." because I don't want to be lead by ANYONE whose last name begins with "A" or "B" ...

... now, of course, we know that ANYONE whose last name begins with "C" is pure leadership material ...

...

...

...

In the interest of full disclosure, it is just coincidence that my last name begins with "C" ...
