As predicted by its leaders, the U.S. Navy has missed its recruiting goals for fiscal year 2023 by a wide mark, according to Navy Recruiting Command.
On Tuesday, the command said that it brought in 30,200 enlisted active duty sailors this year, about 7,500 people (20 percent) short of its goal. It also missed its target for Navy Reserve enlisted recruits by 1,000 people.
For active-duty and reserve officers, recruitment fell short by 500 and 800 people respectively.
The Navy has made every attempt to attract new applicants. It has eased its testing standards to the minimum level allowable by law, maximized its eligible recruitment age, added a coaching program to help low-performing recruits, and launched a pre-boot camp fitness regimen for those who need assistance meeting weight requirements. New incentives have been created to entice promising candidates, like a $35,000 bonus for shipping out quickly. On the retention side, high-year tenure ("up or out") has been eased, and re-enlistment bonuses have been increased for in-demand ratings…
With its recruiting numbers down in FY2023, the Navy is setting a higher target for FY2024: it wants to find 40,600 new enlisted personnel next year.
Recruitment shortfalls have an effect on readiness, the Navy's leaders have warned. When ships and shore commands operate short-handed, the work is distributed to fewer people, leaving less time for rest, training and maintenance. This can have a slow corrosive effect on morale and readiness. Undermanning was one factor identified in the deadly collisions involving the destroyers USS John S. McCain and USS Fitzgerald in 2017.

White rage. Who wants to join a woke military led by a senile CIC? Actions have consequences.
What? You mean the Navy couldn’t attract enough sodomites and other deviants to make up for the short fall of “angry white men”?
Color me shocked!
Nobody wants to risk being assigned to a ship named after Harvey Milk.
At least not normal white men
Way to go Brandon!

The USS John McCain was destined for an accident for its namesake alone
I’ll use the POS apologists at Fakecheck who admit McCain lost 5 airplanes. A world record.
On the other end, the Navy will issue a stop loss order, meaning that service members approaching their expiration of active service (EAS) will be involuntarily retained on active duty. [Enlisted personnel typically sign an 8-year service contract, with four years of active duty and four years of inactive reserve status, subject to recall. At their discretion, the Navy will adjust that 4/4 split and add more active time. It’s all a real morale builder. /sarc]

Well, no. They haven’t gotten rid of the idiocies that put them in this position in the first place.
There simply aren't enough of them to fill the ranks.
This might cause them to drop the mandatory cross dressing.
WTF?
AND with all the unemployment (but most of THAT is self-selected, voluntary since so many people like being on welfare and similar give=away programs these days)
It is such a great honor to serve in the USNavy! Are they really recruiting much? I’ve attended many high school and community events where they COULD well have recruited (all they had to do was ask for an information table), and they weren’t there. I can’t judge whether they’re doing it more nationally since my “sample size” is necessarily limited — but they sure aren’t recruiting as much as they could. Also, many high schools have abandoned ROTC activity groups so that their interested students don’t get that opportunity either. ROTC can be a great learning activity for kids even for those that do not decide to join up when they graduate, but of course many do ... and this alone must be depressing the enlistment numbers? I blame the school administrators.
Good. People are wising up.
Not surprising at all. What young person of normal intelligence would offer to put their life at risk fighting for a country run by LOSERS AND CRIMINALS, being overrun everyday by illegal invaders, and crawling with arsonists, thieves, and murderers???? Most young people today may be stupid and brainwashed, but it doesn’t take a lot of smarts to see that going into an armed forces recruitment office today is a bad idea!
