I believe in common sense. Common sense tells me too few Americans are willing or able to complete STEM education to meet the growing need.
“Young Americans don’t bother learning IT because they figure the Indians have the monopoly on it.” ... I think it reflects the failure of too many U.S. public schools. It’s no accident that homeschooling is growing leaps and bounds.

The talent CEOs need is already in the U.S. The CEOs don’t like paying for the talent. Salaries in the bulk of IT positions have been stagnant for 20 years.

It is a blatant lie that the biggest firms import (H1 Visas) the workers they “need”, it is merely the specific workers overseas they have already identified they want, without first even looking to see if equal domestic talent is available.
Why do they do that? A worker on a H1b Visa is tied to the employer that obtained the H1b visa - yes, the visa is obtained by the employer 1st, the H1 visa worker second. For three to six years the H1B visa holding employee is stuck with the employer that sponsored the H1B visa - no matter the pay.
I had a consultant from the management consulting arm of our accounting firm who worked on some IT projects for us, for a period of a couple years. At one point he told me he had learned that he was being paid less than 75% of what all the other equally qualified, equally experienced U.S. citizen IT specialists in the firm were being paid. The H1b visa is often a form of indentured service.
“ Man, let me eduacate you. Anyone that graduates with a STEM degree ( which is what H-1B are for ) Is not an illiterate non binary public school loser. Get it? This about how we shaft our own best and brightist.”
When I was working for a living I was fortunate to have a boss that read from the same book that I did. He explained how they would hire temps and MAY offer them a job if they measured up after six months to a year. This was because it was nearly impossible to fire a worthless employee even in this “right to work” state. We had a “Manager of Diversity”, a necessary position according to the boss. I recall one employee who “oops!” got pregnant minutes after being hired, thereby entitling her to extensive paid “maternity leave”. DW was in a position of management and had to carry a notebook to log a certain employee’s behavior for months in order to bring a case to fire her worthless self. Just two anecdotes of many. There exists here a class of people who have a very poor work ethic and are quite willing to abuse the system.
Plenty and more reasons not to even consider Nikki Haley....she’s really just taking up space.
