Several decades ago I worked for a military contractor. One department had a lot of problems and a scheduled review by the military head honcho (Admiral Hyman Rickover, if anyone is wondering) was coming in less than two months when this department was suddenly merged with our department. Needless to say, the admiral worked his surgery with a rusty hatchet and my boss who had worked twenty years for the contractor was blamed and terminated. A naval commander who received a negative review during the same incident committed suicide a few days later. People feared Admiral Rickover, with good reason.
