$16 McDonald’s meal leaves fans fuming — beloved fast food chain ‘no longer affordable’
New York Post ^ | Nov. 4, 2023 | Brooke Kato

An enraged McDonald’s customer says the fast food franchise is no longer affordable for ordinary Americans, calling the company’s contemporary prices “crazy.”

“So, I get there’s a labor shortage, I get there’s wage increases and a number of other things,” Idaho man Christopher Olive began in a viral TikTok clip, which has recently resurfaced.

“But $16? $16 for a burger, a large fry and a drink? It’s just crazy!” the flabbergasted content creator complained, panning to his itemized receipt from a McDonald’s restaurant in the city of Post Falls. The video was original posted on social media last December, but has now gone viral again after McDonald’s recently reported an increase in revenue directly influenced by a “strategic” hike in menu prices.

Many (most) of these people whining about the prices probably voted for Democrats who keep pushing up the minimum wage. The extra money in the employees’ paychecks has to come from somewhere. Don’t they get it?

”One of the choices is a burger with fries which is 10 times larger than McDonalds…”

10 times larger? Exaggerate much?

And yet, he paid for it!”

You don’t get the receipt until you “pay for it”.

“The fast food model is dead.”

Uh huh.

Yet, McDonald’s revenue is up by several billion.

This is why I use GroupOn and LocalFlavor.com for my meals. BTW, on friday night we were late for our LocalFlavor meal deal so we went to McDs where I used an app to buy some stuff for my wife and myself. Oh, and it was the FIRST time I ever tried Chicken McNuggets when my wife gave me one to try. And that was the LAST time I will ever indulge in that particular “treat.”

“Post Falls, ID is close enough to Spokane, WA to influence the wage rate. WA minimum wage is almost $16 per hour while ID is $7.25..”

Yep, but I recently found McDonald’s pricing to be very close in Spokane (multiple franchises -vary somewhat), Post Falls, Couer d’Alene, Sandpoint and Ponderay. But in SE WA where I live pricing is significantly lower, yet still with the high minimum wage. Tells me franchise owners have a lot of pricing power and respond to market conditions.

McDonalds around Coeur d’Alene have huge signs out advertising their pay rate. I saw it today (on one of my many fall dump runs) and I think it said $18/hour!

“Us conservatives are FAR BETTER PEOPLE than the dregs that eat at McDonald’s.”

But apparently suck at English.

McDs or any other joint can charge as much as they want for food. If you are priced out Whaaaaaa. That is the free market at work.

It’s their funeral. I’m not going to pay $8 or more for one of their crummy hamburgers, when I can get a real burger with fries at a local diner for a dollar or two more. As far as “If you are priced out, whaaaaaa”, congratulations. Yours seems to be the same as the government’s attitude. It’s not really a free market when the government has their finger on the scales.

The minimum wage is not the primary reason for this huge price increase.

I guess it hurts a lot of egos to be priced out of a McD Big Mac combo meal.

At least in my state, it's anything but a free market at work, starting with state laws on minimum wage and laws that apply to fast food.

The last time I had a Chicken McNuggets was in the 80s. I know I tried them, but I don’t actually remember anything about it. But I don’t think I’ve had them after elementary, or at most Middle School.

Thank the run away inflation caused by government spending (and aggravated by everything joe does)

That, and $20/hr minimum wages as a result of inflation, that then feeds inflation in a vicious circle.
