HBO’s “Real Time” host Bill Maher acknowledged there is a deep state he characterized as “the bureaucratic class that justifies its existence by making up new rules” made up of “petty tyrants” who ignore the will of the American people.
Near the end of his Friday show, Maher used a straw man fallacy to diminish conservative’s concerns of the weaponized intelligence agencies, instead saying the real deep state is comprised of legions of bureaucrats within the federal government.
“It’s time to admit that here in America, there really is such a thing as the deep state, but it’s not the one MAGA nation is freaked out about. The FBI is not a bunch of closet radicals, it’s a bunch of guys who iron their underwear,” Maher said.
“Washington is a city full of big, stone buildings full of bureaucrats, but they’re not plotting against real Americans. They’re issuing passports, cutting Social Security checks, running the Census, updating maps, buying bullets for Ukraine, inspecting dog food, ordering blue plastic gloves for the TSA, and measuring the methane in cow farts.”
“But there is a deep state, which is the bureaucratic class that justifies its existence by making up new rules…it’s the vast network of regulators, administrators, inspectors, contract reviewers, project managers, fee [assessors], special commissioners, zoning officers, and consultants whose jobs seem to be to make sure nothing ever happens and then charge you for it. The people who answer the phone, permit office, how may I hinder you?” Maher continued.
“15% of workers in America work for the government, that’s 24 million people, with one shared vision: to fine you if your mailbox is too big. They say a conservative is a liberal who just got mugged,...

He’s right about those guys, but MAGAs not wrong about the Intel guys. It’s all one giant diseased monolith.
Exactly. Both concepts can co-exist and even feed off each other. If only one was active, it would be, not easy, but easier to deal with.
By George, I think he’s got it.
What do we do about the “we bes”? ( we be here long after you’re gone)
This guy keeps occasionally stumbling into good sense territory . . .
Dayum! What happened to Maher?
Anyone who thinks that the communist manifesto is not being played out is not paying attention.
He’s been one of the mouthpieces of the establishment for a long time, relentlessly ridiculing us. He can shove it.
Don’t trust him.
I believe in both. Saw the Intel types first hand. Creepy group of sallow-faced geeks...
He edges closer, but just can’t come to terms with being wrong all along.
What is left unmentioned is most government employees are Democrats. The disease is heavily weighted.
The uniparty’s primary objective is to fees and grow the deep state bureaucratic borg.
How can Maher fail to get it that the same tyrannical tendencies petit bureaucrats are prone to also effect the “National Security State” bureaucrats (just more so, since they operate in secrecy and have massive power, budgets, and scary things to hide behind).
Considering his past as another obedient transmitter of DNC talking points you are right - but since Carlson got back-stabbed for too much truth-telling Maher seems to be hellbent on picking up the ball and running with it until they catch up to him, too. He could have gone along but that and having accumulated FU money over time seems to have sprouted backbone in the man.
He's not the only one the Dems surely wish dead. Brit Russell Brand has been embarrassing them consistently. Even Piers Morgan has been piping up against his masters. I hope it's a trend.
*This guy keeps occasionally stumbling into good sense territory . . .*
No. He’s throwing us a bone from time to time.
*”Don’t trust him.”* You are smart.
His funniest quote was when he said he’s a libertarian. He’s full of it.
Everyone who receives a paycheck in DC is suspect.
Wrong on the first pint, correct on the second. But all of government is in on it. None of these weak men and strong women will ever cut the government. Any part of it, ever. It is 100% their gravy-train for life. No way they’re gonna change & reduce.
