Rep. Steve Womack, R-Ark., an Army veteran who opposed the far-right push for Rep. Jim Jordan for speaker, said he was stunned by Rep. Tom Emmer's exit from the speaker race.
"We are hopelessly divided. We are -- we are struggling to find our way," he told ABC's Rachel Scott. The people that are involved in these proceedings are hell-bent on making sure that if it's not their guy, their pick, nothing else matters." "We are hellbent on letting the perfect, or the selfish, get in the way of the good," he said.
Scott asked Womack, a six-term veteran, if he saw a way out of the chaos.
"I haven't seen it," he said. "To continue to go through this exercise is, I think, an existential threat to the constitutional republic," he said.
As Republicans gathered for yet another candidate forum Tuesday night, it's still not clear that any candidate can garner 217 votes on the House floor.
That's led to even more chatter around temporarily empowering Speaker Pro Tempore Patrick McHenry through a resolution vote on the floor.
"McHenry should be able to keep this going," former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said of the temporary speaker.
Meanwhile, Rep. Ken Buck, R-Colo., one of the eight GOP lawmakers who voted to oust McCarthy, told Scott he doesn't regret his decision that led to the last three weeks of gridlock.
"I regret not doing it in January, to solve this issue in January, rather than in October," he said.

I understand what you mean.
Indeed, the Republicans in the House represent many different “variants” of conservatism. We have: Magas, Bushists, Reaganists, Libertarians and RINOS.
THAT is truly a sign that Republicans are inclusive, we accept different versions of conservatism. And as you say, that is also a sign that we are democratic.
But here comes the problem : Every conservative group I just mentioned is right now pushing for THEIR own candidate for speaker of the House, of course.
This means a vote is necessary among Republicans, in order to pick a winner.
So far all good!
However...
The problem is that they don’t respect their internal voting process!!
Can you even imagine that??
If a candidate receives 80% of the vote, then they say : “Nah, we want our guy who only got 20% of the vote to be the leader instead, deal with it, or we block the House for ever”!
Now... I don’t call THAT behavior as democratic at all!

We need to rein in .gov. Business as usual is not working. That’s todays fight. It may fail but at least when tshtf (is there another way to paper over the financial mess we’re in?) I get to say “I told you so”
Not helping Israel against the islamo-Faschist onslaught launched against them, at this very moment in history, would be a moral crime, like assassinating our Christian souls.
Well I’m sure that all “Principled Republicans” agree that we have to make sure, those who oppose the leadership in the House, are both punished and denied funds for the next election cycle.
Next, is to select a Speaker who will “respect the institution” and return to “common sense rules,” in order to prevent any more disruption of the leadership’s business of implementing the donor’s agenda.
Once that is accomplished, we then will be able to return to the business of increasing tech visas for both Indian and Chinese workers, work with the Democrats to legalize the recent arrivals at our border - assisting them in securing housing and health benefits - and integrate them into the labor force at a special wage rate to both help them enter the workforce and allow employers to reduce inflationary pressures on wages.
Not only will this help employers obtain low cost workers, it will also force legacy Americans to be more “realistic” regarding future wage expectations, thus allowing our donor’s more profit.
The next item is, to introduce tax credits allowing manufacturing to be sent overseas and to have little to no tariffs from those manufacturers from our overseas “partners”. We can also send aid bills to Ukraine and other countries running up the deficit, but we will blame the Democrats and claim things will be different once we’re in charge.
(Should we ever be in charge, we will have some “principled Republicans” stand with the Democrats to make sure that the donor’s agenda stays on track.)
Finally, we will allow the Democrats to conduct their political show trials of President Trump and his supporters, while piously proclaiming that we respect the “rule of law” and continue to watch America’s descent into a one party police state.
We, of course, won’t have to worry, because our “friends” across the aisle assure us, that, if we take care of the “extreme elements” in the Republican Party, we can get back to doing business together, and the [weaponized] "club" of politicized law enforcement will never be used against us.
This will allow us to maintain control of our party, and we can once again send the message to our voters, that WE, not they, will set the direction of both the party and our country. It’s time for Washington to get back to business without those “base” people interfering with *the process* and for “Principled Republicans” to again take charge and save our donor’s agenda ... and get back to bipartisan cooperation.
That site appears to be seriously outdated. They still list reps that have left, and they don’t list newer ones.
Also I don’t trust the ratings that they gave one of the reps I follow. Way off if you ask me.
I was check outing these kinds of sites a few days ago and they were all over the place- Giving different ratings from one another. One site listed one of the biggest Rino’s who also voted against Jordon as a super conservative. Another listed him as a major fail. The difference in the ratings was something like 85% vrs 17%. The 17% sounds more like it for the guy I am talking about. Not sure he should get that.
Can’t take what these sites say as gospel.

There’s nothing wrong with leaving the reps who have left on the list, these people become lobbyist, etc, and we still need to know their voting history.
The new ones don’t have enough of a voting history to be judged. It takes time to know who they are.
All these never Jordan types are hypocrits. Of they didn’t demand their way, there would be a speaker. Pointing fingers leaves 3 pointing pack at you.
No, it is a process to find consensus acceptable to the minorities on both ends of the Republican spectrum

No- The new ones have plenty of voting record. One of them was even on the list of 25 who voted against Jordon. Same person has been in on most of the Rino voting lists. But I am also telling you that site(Conservative review) rates a solid conservative as a fail.
