'Existential threat': One Republican stunned after speaker setback (anti-Jordan Womack of Arkansas)
ABC News ^ | 10/24/23

Posted on 10/24/2023 4:11:20 PM PDT by cotton1706

Rep. Steve Womack, R-Ark., an Army veteran who opposed the far-right push for Rep. Jim Jordan for speaker, said he was stunned by Rep. Tom Emmer's exit from the speaker race.

"We are hopelessly divided. We are -- we are struggling to find our way," he told ABC's Rachel Scott. The people that are involved in these proceedings are hell-bent on making sure that if it's not their guy, their pick, nothing else matters." "We are hellbent on letting the perfect, or the selfish, get in the way of the good," he said.

Scott asked Womack, a six-term veteran, if he saw a way out of the chaos.

"I haven't seen it," he said. "To continue to go through this exercise is, I think, an existential threat to the constitutional republic," he said.

As Republicans gathered for yet another candidate forum Tuesday night, it's still not clear that any candidate can garner 217 votes on the House floor.

That's led to even more chatter around temporarily empowering Speaker Pro Tempore Patrick McHenry through a resolution vote on the floor.

"McHenry should be able to keep this going," former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said of the temporary speaker.

Meanwhile, Rep. Ken Buck, R-Colo., one of the eight GOP lawmakers who voted to oust McCarthy, told Scott he doesn't regret his decision that led to the last three weeks of gridlock.

"I regret not doing it in January, to solve this issue in January, rather than in October," he said.

This is a district that has elected Republicans uninterrupted since 1966 (the first one in AR to go GOP since Reconstruction). Womack is plain rotten. His vote against Jordan proves he’s just a Demonrat.

Why do these Republicans go to CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, and CBS? They go to the known liars to spread their message.

"Get on your central committee, fight for strong conservative endorsements, and victories, primary the worst and do the grass roots work to make it better. That is what we can do. Get elected state delegate and fight for string platform strong candidates etc. run or support someone running. Etc."

No thanks, I've got better things to do in my old age, than get involved in the insanity of politics. Was more active when I was younger, but more important things came up in life, and family that had to be dealt with over the years. As it is, I'll be lucky if I'm still alive to vote for Trump for a third time next year. I live in a red country in central NY State, so basically, any vote I make for a Republican candidate on the Federal level, is wiped out by NY City, and it's surrounding blue counties. Despite NY State having a higher number of red counties than blue, for some odd reason, the NY State Legislature is control by more than a 2 to 1 Democrat majority. It's a joke.

Dragging this out is NOT good for America, and especially not for us Republicans.

Yeah, but it gives (an unfortunately large percentage of) Freepers a chance to engage in Purer than thou posturing. I look forward to the #TeamEmptyChair explanations about much electoral success Republicans will have campaigning for House seats on the platform of not electing a Speaker, or transacting any House business. Especially in a Presidential election year.

Vote for me folks, and the candidate you don't like won't become President, because the House won't elect a Speaker, much less get around to counting the Electoral College votes for President!

It's appeasing lapdogs like you, Womack, who are the actual existential threat to the constitutional republic

” I think, an existential threat to the constitutional republic,”

Oh, please. Going a few weeks without a Speaker of House is an ‘existential’ threat? I find a break from passing laws and spending money somewhat refreshing. Is it Belgium that hasn’t even been able to form a government for a few years now and yet the country and its people still exist.

McCarthy’s major actions were those of an Assistant ‘RAT.

Liz Cheney and Steve Womack rated a picture together in a NYT article. Thanks for posting this as I was previously unaware as to how infected my Congressman was. Safe to say he is aligned with all the editorial content pertaining to how good “Liz” was for old time Republicanism in the ADG’s opinion columns. I do hope that he is contested in the near future.
The pre-2016 Never-Trumpers and Chamber of Commerce types in Arkansas never grow old or fade away ever.

"Dragging this out is NOT good for America, and especially not for us Republicans."

Government big enough to give you everything is also big enough to take everything away from you. If we had the federal government guaranteed to us in the Constitution then Congress could take a 2 year break and nobody would notice or care.

The GOPe do-nothings except spend other people’s money will get kicked out next year anyway and barely took the majority last year as it is. It was the 60’s since the GOPe were one-termers, they sure have earned it and they will this time too. Xiden has been enabled by these POS’ every step of the way.

McCarthy was not “the good”.

Some people think disarray is always bad. Its not in this case. These people do not do their jobs properly in the first place.

When is the last time an actual budget was submitted? A cluple decades. Just been emergency and continuing resolutions for funding since 20 some years.

From elsewhere: Loomer.
“BREAKING: President Trump just issued a SCATHING statement about Tom Emmer and everyone in the
@HouseGOP
who voted for him to be Speaker today.

Trump said, “Voting for a Globalist RINO like Tom Emmer would be a tragic mistake.”

This comes after President Trump reposted a video expose from my account last night in which I exposed Emmer as a Soros plant who wants to abolish the Electoral College”

The GOPe... will get kicked out...

The GOP is the enemy to MAGA. And MAGA will WIN BIG in 2024 because Gaetz the shephard boy "smote the cabal in his forehead." No Speaker needed.

FUSW.

Emmer is a never-Trumper RINO who once called for the abolition of the Electoral College.
