US officials said advising Israel to delay Gaza ground op to allow hostage talks

The White House wants Israel to delay its ground operation in the Gaza Strip to allow more time for negotiations to release the hostages held by terrorists there and for aid to enter the Palestinian enclave, several unnamed US officials told The New York Times.

Officials said that the US is not asking Israel to abort the ground invasion but is advising it to wait, and that Washington still fully supports Israel’s aim to destroy Hamas in the wake of the deadly onslaught.

Nonetheless, four senior Israeli defense officials told the Times the ground invasion has been repeatedly put off and they don’t know the reason why. Two suggested the wait was due to hostage negotiations.

HAMAS will let Biden know when he can give Israel the okay to attack as soon as they have all their people and weapons removed
from the Gaza target areas and replaced them up with women and children.

How about one “humanitarian” aid truck allowed in for every 10 hostages released?

How abut no “humanitarian” aid, since it all goes to Hamas anyway. There are no civilians in Gaza.

The hostages are already booby trapped, bomb-belted and waiting for the rescuers. They will not survive, unless some miracle happens.

I will argue that the IDF doesn’t really need to send in troops on the ground

You cannot secure a victory in any war without taking ground.

Better yet for the US to hit Iranian targets until hostages released.

If the IDF and Israeli political leaders actually knew what they were doing, the country wouldn’t have been invaded in the first place.

Absolutely! I agree 100%!

The Israeli's should have known that complying with the WOKE Diversity idiocy forced on them by the HAMAS enabling Biden
administration would lead to even more HAMAS attacks.

Just because Biden and his gang of idiots in the federal government let muslim terrorists who hate our guts stroll across our borders
and enter the USA doesn't mean it's a good idea for Israel to do the same.

“Officials said that the US is not asking Israel to abort the ground invasion but is advising it to wait,”

So much for Biden’s unequivocal support for Israel.

The fight with Iran via Hamas was inevitable. Allowing the Hamas assault was necessary in order to have reason for destroying Gaza.

There is a new game. The old game has been abandoned.

I don't know how Ukraine figures into this. LOL.

One thing I've noticed is that we have all kinds of war cheerleaders here on this website who have this delusional idea that Douglas MacArthur, George Patton and Chester Nimitz are going to be leading all the military campaigns they're advocating.

Reality turns out to be much different. Nowadays, a "U.S. military campaign" ends up being Lindsey Graham and Nimrata Haley telling Joe Biden what to do. That just means two things: (1) it's going to be a complete failure, and (2) it's going to cost a bazillion dollars that we don't have.

Everytime a politician or head of state calls, IDF should interrupt: “The anwswer is “NO” until all of our hostages are released. CLICK”. Bibi playing the fools game of politics.

“How long is it going to take Netanyahu to figure out that Biden’s minions, Hamas, and the Qataris are just stringing him along to make it harder for the Israelis to finally enter Gaza and take care of business?”

He knows, bank on it.

That is, the IDF and Israeli political leaders actually know what they are doing.

Given how badly the IDF was caught with their pants down by Hamas, and given how their first responses ended up alienating their Arab allies in the region (including Egypt, who was historically *opposed* to Hamas due to its ties with the Muslim Brotherhood; as well as Saudi Arabia, as all of the diplomatic work in establishing in alliance with them seems to have gone down the drain), I don't think they do; not to the degree they would have in the past. The overall sense I've been getting from Israeli media is that Netanyahu's prior long-term policy (the "existing plan", to use your phrase) of propping up Hamas to serve as a counter to Fatah in the West Bank (to keep the Palestiniand politically fractured) has backfired horrendously. He'll be lucky to be PM by this time next year.

The other problem is that their primary military ally - the United States - is on the decline in numerous ways, so they can't rely on the world hegemon as they have in the past. Time will tell if our fleets moving through the Mediterranean are just a bluff, or if we'll end up getting involved in a wider regional war at a time we literally cannot afford it (and with utter incompetents at the helm, to boot).

I personally believe a lot of Americans conflate the modern state of Israel with the biblical Israel, and likewise rely on their performance from decades-old wars, to perceive them with a degree of competency above and beyond what a parliamentary democracy infested with bureaucrats and opposing viewpoints deserves.

Military force IS negotiation.

It may be the only language Hamas understands.

Try to imagine the angst Netanyahu is experiencing. He knows that when he orders the ground invasion of Gaza, those helpless hostages will be savagely murdered. He also knows that his enthusiastic, young soldiers are mostly combat inexperienced, will face hard urban fighting, and are likely to take significant casualties. He also knows his political career will soon be over. The failure of Israeli intelligence to detect the arsenal buildup up in Gaza ( or the failure to inform him) and the insecure, inadequately defended border for whatever reason happened on his watch. It is likely that when he leaves office , his goal of removing the great existential threat to Israel, the Iranian mullah regime, will remain unfullfilled. Netanyahu is facing horrible decisions and will in his heart , despite his many accomplishments, consider himself a failure. It is a story of biblical proportions.
