Super Bowl champion head coach Tony Dungy had some choice words for ESPN’s "SportsCenter" X account on Saturday night after Coco Gauff won her first U.S. Open title.
After Gauff defeated Aryna Sabalenka 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, the "SportsCenter" account wrote that the tennis phenom "took a moment to soak it all in after winning her first Grand Slam title."
Dungy took aim at the account and asserted that Gauff was praying.
"I hate to break this to you SportsCenter but Coco Gauff was not ‘soaking it all in’ at this moment. She was praying. She has been very open about her Christian faith in the past. It seems pretty obvious what she is doing here," Dungy wrote.
Gauff spoke about her faith after winning the first Grand Slam title of her career after she was asked what it meant to her to win the title on home soil.

There is also a very amusing Twitchy thread here:

It says a lot about the “kosmos”/world system that a faith that is core to millions of people is for all purposes “cancelled” from China to the USA by those who have authority over information. But be comforted. That faith is not dependent upon said authorities and in time will bite them in the butt.
ESPN is a commie organization so of course they despise God..congrats to Coco, she is an amazing talent very happy for her!
Good on Dungy to call them out for it.
GOOD on Tony Dungy.
But then, Tony Dungy is a normal Christian man.
Thank you sir.
Sports Center’s “Let’s go Brandon” moment.
That not only gets you fired, but you may even find yourself the target of a grand jury. God and prayer has been canceled by the state idolizing leftist loons.
It was 100% obvious to anyone with a working brain that Ms. Gauff was instead very quietly whispering to herself, "Let's Go, Brandon!"
How dare anyone insinuate that what happened at the U.S. Open had anything at all to do with god, christianity, and prayer! The U.S. Open is a public event that was globally televised! In our Constitution, there is Separation of Church & Sports! When will the idiot Republicans & conservatives figure out that the Founding Fathers explicitly separated Church from State (and Sports)! Let's go, Cancel Culture!
In her post-game interview, Coco said she was exhorting herself to do maximum effort versus the talented #1 world ranked player. Coco was not asking God’s help. She was telling herself to use those God given gift.
That is what I admire about her. She does not run to God for help. God has already gifted her with physical and mental gifts. She believes in using those. That is how I have lived my life as well. I thank God every day for the magnificent brain and body he awarded me with. I believe he wants me to use those gifts instead of asking for his help.
Nice take.

She said she doesn’t pray for results but to play up to her ability.
“Shepard’s Prayer”
Is attributed to Shepard, with the phrase supposed to have been uttered by him while he awaited liftoff aboard the Freedom 7. It is usually quoted as
“Dear Lord, please don’t let me F up”,
It’s amazing. They made all that noise about Tebow, when Russell Wilson was doing the same thing.
And if one watches the NFL, they’ll routinely see players from both teams meet at the 50 and take a knee after the game.
So sad.
Good for Gauff and congratulations to her winning the US Open. Have to admit I didn't think much of her and she was getting a lot of hype as the tournament progressed (I think they need a new black star now that Serena is gone). But she defeated the Number 1 ranked player in the world yesterday - without threatening any of the lines-people nor throwing any tantrums . Good job Coco!
Yeah... she’s praying!
I am too - congratulations to Coco and may she continue to enjoy her many blessings.
ESPN is owned by Disney. That speaks volumes.
Prayer has almost nothing to do with asking God to bless you, get you out of circumstances, or even for the most magnificent body or most brilliant mind (thank you lord that I’m not like that sinner over there, right?).
It’s about something much deeper.
Humility.
Bottom Line - white females cannot compete against the natural strength, athleticism, and quickness of great Black female tennis players.
Maybe the next Women's Tennis decade will be dominated by Coco and half a dozen white male Trannies?
Jimmy the Greek’ is that you?🤔
