Ron DeSantis did what he does best during Hurricane Idalia: Govern
NY Post ^ | 2 Sep 2023 | Kevin D Williamson

“It is an ill wind that blows no man to good,” as the proverb says. In the case of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, one might add a much-abused adverb: literally.

Hurricane Idalia made landfall in Florida this week, bad news for everybody living in Florida except for one man: Ron DeSantis, who in the past has shown that this sort of everyday executive work — governor stuff — is something that he is pretty good at.

Taking time off from his recent political shtick, DeSantis was on the phone with President Biden while members of his administration were negotiating with their federal counterparts to get FEMA to pick up a larger share of the recovery costs than the usual 75 percent.

Some 40,000 utility workers were mobilized to get the lights back on where powerlines were down.

Florida’s post-hurricane work has been methodical and effective. (Oh, and the Governor’s Mansion was almost destroyed by a falling oak tree.)

——Kevin Williamson is a seriously anti-Trump writer for the National Review,——

So true. It is not like the writers such as Williamson favor any of the GOP candidates running against Trump. No, it is their dislike for Trump that motivates Williamson and his ilk.

HAHAHAHAHAHA I have master’s degree in mechanical engineering.
It is the hardest curriculum with largest flunk out rate for freshmen. You could not pass this curriculum if your life depended on it. Nursing? One of the easiest curriculum, but who wants to touch sick patients? Calculations? I have done more than Einstein and Newton combined. But I really respect Issac Newton who invented calculus.

It is a shame that you have an advanced degree, yet you are either incapable or too stubborn to use your noodle to see the gross overstatement of Truth Social promised (Actual is only 1.2% of projected 41 million members).

Who is financing Truth Social: DWAC was created with a Shanghai-based firm, a former CEO of a Wuhan-based financial company, reportedly $8 million loan from Russia, etc. China and Russia.

Ignore at your own peril.

The only way for DeSantis to get to the White House is if Trump invites him. I doubt Trump would invite him to Mar a Lago since backstabbers aren’t allowed there.

Truth Social is at top of your list of critical issues?
Not exploding gang looting of retailers?
(anarchy is the main cause of death of constitutional republic)
Not exploding national debt (interest paid will be bigger than defense budget next year) compounded by money wasted in Ukraine?
Not open borders?
Not inflation choking middle class families?
Not 7.5% mortgage rates?

I prefer Trump because he has a very good record of addressing problems I listed above.

Check this out. America was robbed. Trump 45 was likely our last GOP President.

I doubt anyone disputes that when DeSantis is actually on the job!..

…but Joe, the day of the election, after we had tirelessly promoted him, and he won……
…one of our head honchos of the local Republican Party came to our tent and said
….Ron’s going to run for President!

THATS when I began disliking him.

The problem with de Santis is that rabid Trump supporters lash out vindictively at any hint of Trump criticism or opposition

There must be an anti Trump boogieman

DeSantis - best governor we’ve ever had in Florida... And hopefully Trump’s VP.

First of all, no one is insulting you.

Second, you don’t know what my “side” is.

It is not about you. Here on FR, I regularly call out people who name call because either they dilute any argument or point they were trying to make or they favor over reason.

Go have some tea.

Oh, there are many here who would dispute that DeSantis can tie his own shoelaces. There was nothing bad to say until he announced his candidacy, and overnight he was the object of non-stop derision. For some, a quick transition to respectable to assertions that he's a Deep Stage stooge.

So disliking him because he has chosen to run against Donald Trump is not unusual.

I had no idea of this when he was running for governor of Florida -- that was the sole focus for us here. Later when he tossed his hat into the ring, I was wishing he hadn't, and still do. But I don't take the perspective that a promise was broken.

It looks like Trump has a lock on the primary (although who knows what dirty tricks the RNC may have there), and the legal troubles and general discord around him right now can go a lot of different ways between now and this time next year. As much as I hate to say it, we may need a backup plan.

I also have to point out once more, as I am doing quite a bit lately, that all of this is just wasted time anyway, since the DNC still has their nationwide vote fraud machine in place, and they'll be revving that up to redline once again, while Republicans, dumbfounded, once again watch the steal go down in broad daylight. I hope I'm wrong about that, but I can think like the enemy, and if I were them, that's what I'd be doing.

We're going to find out.
