The Electoral College has successfully protected the integrity of U.S. presidential elections for more than two centuries, a record unmatched around the world. Yet the calls for getting rid of the Electoral College and switching to the popular vote have only grown louder over time.
Since the adoption of the U.S. Constitution in 1787, there have been more than 700 congressional proposals aimed at reforming or repealing the Electoral College. Ironically, the system’s remarkable effectiveness might be precisely what makes it such an inviting target for criticism: the Electoral College has made election fraud so difficult to contemplate that it almost never occurs at the national level.

Get rid of the 17th Amndt, and give real power back to the States.
. . . and the rest of the Progressive Era Crapola too. The Party of Lincoln has turned it’s collective backs on The People by abandoning the Constitution
That would also help secure the Electoral College system.
Yes. Protect the electoral college. It is an ingenious solution to the urban-rural dichotomy, similar to House/Senate (although in its original iteration, the method of election of senators was far more in keeping with the paradigm than the present “direct election”).
Another thing to protect if we care about fair elections is mandatory observing of the counting of ballots, especially in the big cities/counties which dominate almost every state. We have seen armed guards keeping prying conservative eyes away from the counting/tabulating. That won’t do.
i still scratch my head about the 16th and 17th
the states really committed suicide with those amendments
What an incredibly disingenuous statement, even for The Hill. After the 2020 election, there might not have been fraud within the Electoral College itself, but it certainly made official the results of the enormous vote fraud that took place on the state level in so many states.
I still oppose doing away with the Electoral College.
Riigghht. The Electoral College did so much for America is it safeguarded our nation in 2020 against massive electoral fraud.

They want a handful of cities, counties and infested states to decide it all. Thank God it would take a Constitutional Amendment to alter or get rid of the Electoral College.
Yes...the electoral college was probably the most brilliant move by our forefathers.
Oh yeah. The electoral college really kicked ass in the stolen 2020 election. No fraud their. Nope. None.
Russki pixies writing for Da Hill now? Nice.
EC did not protect the 2020 election since swing states made illegal changes to voting laws — changes that are forbidden by USConst specifically to protect the EC.
Hundreds protested and went to court, and turned away.
Nothing has been done since. The GOP did nothing since the same voting corruption got them into office.
This is bait and switch to cover for voter fraud. The Deep State is eager to keep the fraud off of the public’s radar. Honest elections could be its downfall.
Yup, all we have to do is VOTE HARDER tm.
Agreed. I stopped reading at that point.
By 1792 there were 15 states. Of those states, only six of them had popular votes to select their presidential electors. For the other nine, the electors were appointed by either the state legislature or the governor. That’s not a bad system for electing a President.
The system wasn’t perfect, but it does explain why our national political scene has been dominated by retards and corrupt A-holes for years.
this is correct. protecting the electoral college is crucial. those states that are trying to move to the NPV and put their electoral votes into whatever the “majority” says are quickly approaching the 270 threshold.
Republicans in those states need to work on repealing those laws and perhaps protecting the electoral votes of their states by putting the allocation thereof into their respective Constitutions.
you are correct, but if we went to NPV, it would be much much worse.
States like Pennsylvania that RUINED the legal voting process in 2020 are still a problem.
NPV, likewise, destroys the intent of the founders...the county of Los Angeles has a higher population than many states. There is NO WAY we should allow that bastion of idiocy to have the same voice as whole states into who should be the President. Let L.A. county have its say in California ONLY.
Oh How Cute, a couple of Eastern European Bolsheviks discover that Wait a Minute, we really do like the Electoral College...as long as it helps cover up our massive criminality.
Just darling.
Get rid of electronic voting machines.
Enforce existing election law.
Get rid of RCV, mail-in, early voting, any excuse absentee.
If we don’t restore the republic, the Electoral College, if it continues to exist, will just be another rubber stamp for Deep State.
I loved the old free USA, but it's gone and we can never vote our way back. The USA is the new Evil Empire. The question is whether it can be broken up it up without massive bloodshed.
