Hello freepers, need some help figuring out what my wife and i just saw in the nighttime skies over rural western wisconsin. To be honest we are a bit stunned and baffled:
At approximately 8:56pm central time, we were standing on our lake dock after closing up chicken coop for the night. My wife looked up and westward into the clear night sky:
"look, a satellite - wait, another...now another"
In total, 23 total "satellites" went from west to east directly overhead. They were perfectly spaced out, and in a perfect line (precision). zero sound. i say "satellite" because they moved just like you would see a nighttime satellite, a steady light traveling smoothly with zero sound and no blinking.
The formation disappeared on the east horizon within approx 60 seconds of us seeing them.
After about 10 minutes of gawking upwards we the noticed a contrail marking the path they had traveled. Interestingly, the contrail “start” point did not extend back to western origination horizon, but instead started roughly over our approximate rural area- my only theory is it’s as if as they entered our atmosphere roughly by our town.
Elon musk? Military? there is a military base approximately 90 min SE from us, but was not in the direction of the objects’ flight path.
Appreciate any ideas or info! Freegards-
Starlink satellites?
It sounds like a batch of Starlink satellites deploying from the most recent launch.
Starlink. Saw recent scenario here in western Colorado. Was actually quite impressed
Could be starlink satellites.
The most recent Starlink satellite launch had 22 satellites, probably with a bus to deploy them adding another object. Add in a possible thruster and the contrail is explained as well.
aliens. it’s always aliens.
Hillary’s back in town?
This sight might help since you recorded the time. I heard of this sight from a friend. I never personally used it but you should be able to find out what it was

.
Remember, you didn’t see anything.
.
I suspect that’s a really nice area, based on my travels.
Enjoy!
That is very odd.
I also live in Wisconsin, but further east.
Perhaps 1/2 hour before the time you saw those lights, I saw a series of lights going overhead, roughly West to East, in a row, from an upper window at home.
By the time my wife came over to look, they were gone.
I hate those things. Have seen the twice now. Looks like a conga line going across the sky.
But nice for those who want to cut the Comcast cord and who don’t want the metered slow-as-molasses-in-January sattelite ISPs like Hughe$net.
Probably airliners flying at their cruising altitude.
Starlink
I sorta miss the days when a post like this would be followed by a bevy of angry
LOOSE LIPS SINK SHIPS!!!
Replies.
That was a long time ago, though,
back when Freepers liked George Bush
Kenny Bunk was alive and well,
And Laz decided not to hit it that one time.
