'Strategic Bombing' of Russia Integral to Ukraine's Offensive: Ex-General
Newsweek ^ | August 30, 2023 | David Brennan

Posted on 08/30/2023 2:06:33 PM PDT by canuck_conservative

Drone attacks on Russian territory have become an almost daily occurrence in recent weeks....

Hodges, who has been one of Kyiv's most vocal advocates in the U.S., said in an interview on Monday that the growing drone threat "is a part of the counteroffensive" that is currently raging in southeastern Ukraine. There, Ukrainian troops are pushing into Russian fortified lines, hoping to precipitate a defensive collapse....

"You've got what I would call 'strategic bombing,'" he added. The campaign has seen "drone strikes that have hit Moscow several nights in a row as well as other places throughout Russia, by Ukrainian drone operators and perhaps sabotage happening in Russian controlled areas, going after munitions plants, oil storage areas, these kinds of things."...

"They don't have a coherent command structure, that they hate each other up there, and the best commanders are either dead or in jail now and the most loyal ones remain in office despite their incompetence," Hodges said of the Russian military....

"The great Black Sea Fleet doesn't want to get within 100 miles of Ukrainian coasts right now," Hodges said. "They're terrified of anti-ship missiles and Ukrainian maritime drones. And Ukraine doesn't even have a navy."

"The great Russian air force has not been able to destroy a train or convoy bringing equipment and ammunition from Poland into Ukraine in 18 months. That's because of the very good air defense, as well as Russian inability; they've failed to ever achieve air superiority."...

Took Ukraine a while to work the bugs out, but now they appear to be ramping up coordinated drone attacks deep within Russia

just payback for what Russia did

This is about as militarily significant as the V1 and V2 rocket attacks on the UK.

--- "Ukraine's intensifying long-range drone strike campaign against Russian cities is a key part of Kyiv's ongoing counteroffensive operation, the former commander of U.S. Army Europe, retired Lieutenant General Ben Hodges, has told Newsweek."

"He [ Hodges ] endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 U.S. presidential election in an op-ed with Ambassador Robert A. Mandell and Lieutenant General Donald M. Campbell Jr."

That's what conservatives do. They endorse Biden.... < sarc >

Here’s the thing: It’s obvious to me that discount drones are not flying across hundreds of miles of Russian territory to hit these targets. They’re being launched and controlled from relatively nearby.

“That’s what conservatives do. They endorse Biden....”

Agreed. And I have zero doubt that if DJT is the GOP nominee for 2024 that a bunch of “conservatives” will endorse and support Biden if it means stopping DJT from hurting their precious feelings with mean tweets.

Uke has no chance. Never did. Should’ve kept their word in the Minsk agreements and said “No!” to NATO turning their country into a military springboard. But instead they asked for it, and now they’re getting it good and hard.

A few drones mean nothing in the overall picture. Its like claiming the blood and cuts on the fists of a dominating boxer is proof the boxer is “wounded” while ignoring the pummeled sack of meat on the ground.

...just payback for what Russia did...

All Russia asked was compliance with the Minsk agreements Ukraine had agreed to until the CIA decided they needed regime change in Russia so they could steal Russia's natural resources.

they’re also good for probing weaknesses in the Russian “air defenses”

guess Vlady shouldn’t have stripped all those S-400 systems of their missiles just so he could bomb Ukraine last fall, huh

uh, long before Minsk, Russia broke its pledge to respect Ukraine’s sovereignty, given only when Ukraine voluntarily gave up its nukes

IOW, Russia lied ... what a surprise

that’s why even Ronald Reagan didn’t trust Russian “promises”, and insisted on adding the “verify part” ... Reagan knew the Russian snakes well

So, NATO must resort ISIS-like terrorist attacks on Russian civilians because Ukraine is getting ass kicked on the battlefield.

It's no wonder the rest of the world hates us and are allies.

The V attacks did succeed in diverting Allied resources into air defense and suppression of V-sites, etc. Not enough, and of questionable utility given the vast investment in the V- programs, a poor bang for the buck, but they did have an effect.

The Ukrainian drone attacks are, unlike the V-programs, a very low-cost operation.

Its already had an effect, going back to last year, in forcing the Russians to abandon military airbases (such as Belgorod and those in Crimea) within what was thought to be in drone range. Now that drone range is much greater we will probably see even greater withdrawals, beyond the current effective range. This is turning into a severe problem, as it seems every military airfield in western Russia is at risk of attrition attacks.

I am speaking of basing, not usage, such as loading, unloading or refueling aircraft. Targeting doesn’t seem to be real-time, yet. But operating aircraft, which involves maintenance, etc., where aircraft have to stay put for several days, is becoming risky.

NATO?
Ukraine.

There seems to be a strain of thought on the Russian propaganda side that seems to consider Ukrainians as subhumans, incapable of agency.

Then they would simply be Годзилла (godzilla) and not the proud, mighty heirs of the Defenders of Stalingrad,St. George, and Peter the Great.

Should’ve kept their word in the Minsk agreements

I think you mean that Russia should have kept its word in the Minsk agreements by removing its forces and handing over the border to Ukrainian control as required. Ukraine, on its part, passed the law granting Donbas autonomy and had plans for the required referendum, which Russia blocked. But again, there would have been no need for the Minsk agreements if Russia had not invaded in the first part, something that the pro-Russian crowd always forgets to mention.

“Uke has no chance. Never did.”

Russia is now suffering attacks deep inside of Russia and in Moscow itself.

The attacks will only get worse.

So, NATO must resort ISIS-like terrorist attacks on Russian civilians…

So, Russian military air bases are now "civilian" targets? And what about the Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities for more than a year now?

… because Ukraine is getting ass kicked on the battlefield.

You need to take another look at the maps. The Russians have been brought to a standstill for quite a long time now. It is the Ukrainians who are advancing, albeit slowly.

How many more of your Uke cousins do you wish to see 6 feet buried? Or most of their bodies, anyway. 300k? 400k? And triple that for amputees, disabling wounds, etc.

There is no Uke ‘victory’ possible. The russkies will go all-in at the first sign of any irreversible set back. Do you not remember the 3 MILLION Germans who died on the Eastern Front? The russkies did that, at great cost to themselves, but the red army went rolling into Berlin anyway, didn’t they? Just because your military turned gay and wear dresses in uniform, high heels to ‘feel’ like a whore, and can’t do 30 sit-ups don’t mean the rough necks in Siberia did, too.
