Can Ron DeSantis Win?
Townhall ^ | August 14, 2023 | Kurt Schlichter

Of course, Ron DeSantis can come back and win. Anybody in the race can win – we saw Trump come back in 2016 when most everyone wrote him off in the general. Now it’s the Florida governor’s turn to be written off, but he’s not exactly in the same place that Trump was. DeSantis is a strong second right now. For him, it’s not a matter of a miracle happening, threading a bunch of needles to win the general when rational betters would bet against you like in 2016. No, Ron DeSantis has a plan, and there’s a method to his muddling through.

As I said, before, what he has to do is channel Fabius and stay alive and win Iowa and New Hampshire.

But can he? His numbers have gone down, although if you listen to guys like @ChubbyNTrumpyMAGA69 on Twitter, you’re going to hear that he’s in single-digits and Vivek is doing much, much better and he’s doomed and he’s done and it’s over and he might as well pack it in. It’s a narrative designed to drive him out of the race and make people think Trump is a done deal. It’s good politics to attempt to set the narrative. That’s what you should do for your candidate – attempt to set the narrative. But when you’re setting the narrative, it helps if you’re not spewing total nonsense because people rarely accept the narrative when they know they’re being lied to. And it’s a lie to say Ron DeSantis is done. Hell, the guy who was president and who did a lot of good things can only get about half of Republicans to support him. That’s not great. That’s awful. And Trump has hit his ceiling. No wonder he’s worried.

Yes, of course he can and will. But for the moment, we need to support Trump against the latest persecution, this time by Willis in Georgia.

Nawww, he can’t win, there aren’t enough NeverTrumpers and he can’t convince enough Trump supporters to vote for him

The author of this article is whistling past the graveyard!

I’m glad you as a DeSantis sycophant, are channeling your “inner democrat” and are happy about the corrupt lawfare being waged against the 45th President.

A wise and well-considered post, my good FRiend.

I support DeSantis in the primary, however the abuse of discretion among officials of the court cannot be overlooked. Trump has rights, and I'll support him in defending himself from the nonsense indictments.

That said, and to the point of the article, yes DeSantis would/will win the general election. Willingness to debate means much. A fantastic conservative record coupled with much, much broader appeal means everything.

Well, I don’t know what you’re reading, but one wouldn’t think that by reading THIS forum.

Now, having said that DeSantis still has a shot at 2024 if he wants it but he has to climb out of that bed he made with the Globalists, NeoCons, and NeverTrumpers and disentangle himself from their plans to take down Trump, drop out of the 2024 race, admit he was wrong and whole-heartedly endorse President Trump.

Then, and only then, can he rescue his chances for 2028 POTUS.

I suspect that even a lot of Conservatives would vote for RFK, Jr., before they’d vote for DeSantis. Despite some of his ideas, RFK, Jr. comes across as more of a Man than whiny and womanish.

I view it as the Deep State trying to manipulate in our primaries so we'll vote for Trump.

We shouldn't take the bait.

I wish DeSantis had stayed on the sidelines for 2024. He would have been a shoe in in 2028. No!

I’m not happy one bit about the lawfare against Trump. I’m never happy about injustice to anyone. I hope he beats every indictment soundly and his accusers are held responsible for their hideous actions. But my support of him in the court is a separate matter from who I vote for and I am not going to vote for him out of sympathy either. There’s too much at stake to lose again and let the weaponization of government and the loss of freedom continue.
