Another case of locally contracted malaria has been detected in Florida, bringing the national tally to eight.
Health officials said the patient was diagnosed last week in Sarasota County, southwest Florida, where the other cases in the state were also detected.
It brings Florida's tally to seven — with five detected last month and one in May — alongside a case in Texas revealed in June in a 21-year-old National Guardsman.
They mark the first cases of domestically-transmitted malaria spotted in the US for more than two decades, in a sign the disease may be gaining a foothold here.

When I was at Homestead AFB, there was s storm that blew in some little Haitiian skeeters that were real bastards. We’d slather on the repellant, but it didn’t work well. If you leaned on a jet and left a sweat mark, the skeeters would land on that to investigate. It was in the ‘80s, so there were plenty of jokes about them carrying blood from gay Haitiian junkies.

IIRC, Ultrathon by 3M was originally tested in the Caribbean. Lower DEET (34% lotion), it is formulated to last longer than regular DEET spray when perspiring. I’ve used it for years, alternating with Picaridin in the past couple of years. Both have great reviews.

Gates released billions of engineered male mosquitos to breed with the native skeeters. His stated goal was to sterilize offspring of matings. Given Gates’ proclaimed goal of population reduction, malaria is an obvious development. And Quinine as medication is illegal now so we have to go with quinine mixed meds or drink lots of tonic water. Ivermectin is good, also and the reason Africa was so little affected by WuFlu.
