DeSantis says Trump not only didn’t fulfill major promise, it got worse
Fox News ^ | 7/16/23 | Jessica Chasmar

Republican presidential candidate Gov. Ron DeSantis rattled off a list of what he deemed to be broken 2016 campaign promises by former President Donald Trump, saying he’d rather attack the GOP front-runner on the issues than personality.

"Substantively, we've been very frank about our differences with respect to the former president," the Florida governor said. "I mean, for example, he promised to drain the swamp – it got worse. He did not drain the swamp.

"He promised to have Mexico pay for a border wall. They did like 50 miles of wall. There's massive expanses still there," he continued. "He said he was going to eliminate the national debt. They added almost $8 trillion to the debt in four years.

"And of course, in 2020, he turned the country over to Dr. [Anthony] Fauci, and those lockdowns and the borrowing and printing really set us on a bad course," he added. "I've been very, very frank at that."

Trump stood there. Actually it was mostly Pence. So Trump owns it. It must be restful to see the world so simplistically with no nuance, no analysis. I guess the electrical engineer who kept the equipment functioning was there too so he’s to blame. Trump realized that Fauci was a mountebank and he sidelined him. Trump didn’t illegally develop COVID using China to circumvent US law. Trump was lied to and thwarted in his attempts to push for off label drugs. The NIH FDSA & AMA prevented the use of drug therapies and dissemination of information about the dangers.

The whole thing was a plot by Gates/Pharmy/Globalists which ensnared Trump. Trump protected the US because he refused mandates, he left states in charge. But in your infinite wisdom this plot, planned over years, deployed against the world and enforced by the media, the FDA NIH and AMAS was Trump’s fault. That is completely illogical.

Keep your honor somewhat intact by shutting up and going back to work in Florida.

Trump promised and didn’t deliver, and why is really immaterial.

Go back and read what he "promised." It was a pile of B.S. that nobody could deliver on. And as soon as the GOP "Obamacare repeal" failed, his seven-point health care plan vanished from the White House website and was never seen again.

I don't blame anyone for failing to repeal ObamaCare (most Americans love it). I blame the GOP for making it their central campaign promise for seven 'effing years even though they knew damn well they had no intention of ever repealing it.

I supported Trump in the 2016 primary, once it got going, and voted for him in Florida. I wasn’t on FR much during that time, or those threads have been deleted when I searched for them.

As far as Cruz, my family is all from Texas, and we were big supporters of Cruz, until 2014, when he went to the border with Glenn Beck and gave out toys and candy to the immigrants. Here’s a post where I was discussing that:

https://freerepublic.com/focus/news/3182249/posts?page=70#70

Then in 2016 here’s a post where I discuss how I soured on Cruz, over that issue at the border, much like I’ve soured on Trump and lost my trust in him now.

https://freerepublic.com/focus/news/3434276/posts?page=38#38

Bottom line, I don’t trust ANY politician, and have been burned by countless ones at this point. My trust is hard to come by, and rightfully so. This fawning and near worship of Trump is disgusting to me, at this point, especially considering the magnitude of his mistakes already so far.

"I went bankrupt and got divorced under Trump. I am struggling under Biden. Let’s not go there."

I got divorced back in 1979 when Jimmy Carter was President. I don't blame him for the break-up, because my then husband was a lying adulterer. I raised my two sons by myself, and because I got rid of the a-hole, I was able to accomplish things in my life that I never would have been able to, had I stayed with the philanderer. The best thing I ever did was get rid of that albatross. I thank God every day for the life I've had. I'm not rich, never owned a home, but I've managed to have had a long and decent retirement. When you end up with lemons, make lemonade.

You can’t just keep blaming Fauci for everything. Here’s some quotes from Trump himself:

https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2021/03/26/trump_on_strange_biden_press_conference_he_got_softballs_it_was_like_a_different_world.html

TRUMP: Now, you know, we came up with a vaccine that was done with my administration. And frankly, me. The FDA is not in love with me because I pushed them at a level that they’ve never been pushed.

But we got a vaccine in nine months. Laura, and it was supposed to take five years. Fauci said it’s probably never going to happen. Fauci was saying three years, four years, five years. A lot of people said twelve years and I got it done in nine months. And it’s you know, it’s really a great accomplishment.

Look, I got along with him fine. But I didn’t listen to him too much...if you really look, I didn’t really listen to him too much because I was doing the opposite of what he was saying.

I’ve been involved in engineering & applied science research for 40 years. So now that we’ve waved our credentials at each other.

I find it surprising you don’t remember any of his AIDS pronouncements! I’ve had the distasteful experience of being involved in investigating R&D fraud. In fact, I built up a reputation at being rather good at rooting it out. There are certain R&D ‘behaviors\procedures’ that cross knowledge domains. If something ‘funny’ occurs in those behaviors\etc’, digging a little deep is required. I never liked that work.

Fauci triggered suspicions in my head the first time I heard him at a press conference. Even not being an expert in virology I found his statements back then excessive. It was clear to me he was exaggerating. Why? Likely to keep funding coming in! As long as the public perceived AIDS as a niche disease effecting a specific ‘not popular’ community it was going to be hard to keep it funded at the level he wanted. Those suspicions were confirmed accidently when at a AAAS meeting in DC I was introduced to NIH virologist who was friend of a NIH employee rugby buddy. This was the 1980s and AIDS was the talk of the town and those rascally Republicans meaning Reagan didn’t care! This NIH person was extremely irritated with Fauci because he was doing that - exaggerating to boost his work. At the time not my circus not my monkeys, I was just happy my ‘BS radar’ pinged true. I just thought to myself the ‘BS radar’ ping would be handy the next time I was pulled in to do another R&D fraud review.

I think we now know that all those exaggerations about AIDS were politically motivated and done to keep the funding going.

My wife just thinks I’m morbidly suspicious of people!

Excuses. And I’ve traveled most of the border, throughout southern California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. From Brownsville to Tijuana. You are correct some areas are problematic to secure. There are multiple ways, but most of it can be secured with a wall, water buoys like Abbott is doing, and other means where necessary. The point is to secure that 2000 miles from Brownsville to Tijuana. Trump failed, I don’t see any likelihood have him succeeding on a second try, maybe DeSantis will fail, but I would like to see him take a shot at it. He’s been successful at everything. He’s done so far.

Excellent question regarding who is my second choice in case trump has to
Drop out: I might take a closer look at Vivek as president and RFKir as veep. I know jr’s stance aka 2nd amendment and Climate—but I would rather have a liberal American as veep versus versus any other democrat.

As for Vivek. I would take a closer look. I know he has issues so a closer look and explanation from him is required.

As for Desantis…doesn’t impress me yet. Being a governor is helpful of course

Before Trump, all these politicians did was ignore us. Did any one of them even come close to mentioning the swamp? Including 6 year congressman DeSantis? If you ever want to see the swamp drained, it will take an outsider like Trump. If you keep choosing swamp people, they will force you to into playing the phony game republican vs democrat. They are actually two sides of the same coin. You will never get rid of them by continually supporting them.

+1

Too many get fooled by speeches and candidate “positions on the issues”

That stuff is irrelevant and fake. It’s created by consultants to fool clueless Boomer Cons

Look at who their donors are - that tells you what these candidates are all about.

Trump did not fail. That was not the task he undertook and the effort you suggest could never have been accomplished in 4 years with the level of pushback. You ignore the years nothing was accomplished until Trump. I do not even agree that what you have outlined needs to be done to secure the border. Certainly it would be a ten year plan.

DeSantis accomplished nothing in Congress. He has a few successes in Florida. There is already pushback and only time will tell whether the actions he has taken will succeed. Many other issues are not being addressed. He is leaving his constituents in midterm. He is not at all proven on the National or International stage. He is certainly not successful at “all he has done”. I don’t understand your hero worship of an imperfect and self absorbed politician.

Perhaps I will mosey on over to his campaign site and ask the questions. Anyone have a list that I should include. Oh and ask for his big donors too!?

Why not ask— got nothing to loose

He explained why he changed it.

He used to call her “Crooked Hillary” but after seeing Dementia Joe in action, he gets the “Crooked”.

She is beautiful, compared to this crime family!

It was at a rally, maybe Iowa.
