July 13
Personal Responsibility
They were still eager to act corruptly in all they did.
Zephaniah 3:7 My friend’s eyes revealed what I was feeling—
fear! We two teens had behaved poorly and were now cowering before the camp director. The man, who knew our dads well, shared lovingly but pointedly that our fathers would be greatly disappointed. We wanted to crawl under the table—feeling the weight of personal responsibility for our offense.
God gave Zephaniah a message for the people of Judah that contained potent words about personal responsibility for sin (Zephaniah 1:1, 6–7). After describing the judgments He would bring against Judah’s foes (ch. 2), He turned His eyes on His guilty, squirming people (ch. 3). “What sorrow awaits rebellious, polluted Jerusalem,” God proclaimed (3:1 nlt). “They [are] still eager to act corruptly” (v. 7).
He'd seen the cold hearts of His people—their spiritual apathy, social injustice, and ugly greed—and He was bringing loving discipline. And it didn’t matter if the individuals were “leaders,” “judges,” “prophets”(vv. 3–4 nlt)—everyone was guilty before Him.
The apostle Paul wrote the following to believers in Jesus who persisted in sin, “You are storing up terrible punishment for yourself. . . . [God] will judge everyone according to what they have done” (Romans 2:5–6 nlt). So, in Jesus’ power, let’s live in a way that honors our holy, loving Father and leads to no remorse.
Reflect & Pray
Why should you take personal responsibility for your sin? How do your wrong choices bring shame to God?

Yes, smoke is gone — but we’re in 90-degree weather. I’m at home with both ACs going.
Right now, Alaska sounds pretty good.

Howdy, Kathy.
I see clouds up there today but a lot of sunshine as well. And the temp broke 60! That hasn’t happened very often this summer, has it?
Y’all need to release some of that cool air down to us. LOL

Howdy, luvie.
I think our heat index today matched your temps. Holy cow, it was rough outside today. I spent about 10 minutes spraying Round-Up in a couple of spots and couldn’t take it any longer. I was soaked when I came back inside.
The rest will have to wait until the heat abates a bit, whenever that will be. Not for a week, at least. Ugh!

I sure do feel your pain. There is no way any of us can go out for any length of time without getting heat stroke. And believe me, with your humidity, you could have, too. Glad you knew when to quit. Whatever needs doing out there will still need doing when it’s more human-friendly.
It’s just unbearable here. I feel so bad for my kitties. Even Li’l Bit is shedding like never before. I brush her and Coal and get so much hair. The other three just melt into whatever coolish spot they find. I try to create some for them, but it’s very hard when it’s not even cooling off much at night. They aren’t eating except in the middle of the night, and they’re all so skinny. Of course, that’s partially because they’ve shed so much. They...and we...sort of look shell-shocked.
When I see people fussing about rain or being cool, I just wanna slap ‘em. LOL! Just kidding, but you know what I mean. :)

Good evening, radu...hope you have all your “stuff” done and are able to stay inside away from the heat.
You and luvie are having a rough time.
I couldn’t stand that heat. At minimum I would need a kiddy pool for all day. LOL!
