Charles Manson follower Leslie Van Houten walked out of a California prison Tuesday after serving 53 years of a life sentence for her participation in two infamous murders.
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said Van Houten 'was released to parole supervision.'
Her release comes days after Gov. Gavin Newsom announced he would not fight a state appeals court ruling that Van Houten should be granted parole.

And their murdered victims are still dead.
She’ll claim how abused she was so what she did was okay.
Calling a biological female a women?
Voting to re-elect Trump?
Eating Meat?
Attempting to send a democrat to prison?
Yeh...we had a release here in my Town...within a year he killed 3 people.
If only “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood” could have been a true story.
Looks used up
i didn’t think she was at the Tate murder, but she still should rot in jail.
Like the old guy in Shawshank Redemption.
She and some other Manson family members got the death penalty, but then the Supreme Court overturned the death penalty, so death sentences became life instead. Then she got a new trial and got a new sentence, which made her eligible for parole.
Paging Laz, paging Laz...
She may find life on the outside is not what she thinks and probably will be totally lost in a world she knows nothing about.
Can’t see the ‘x’ on her forehead. I wonder if it still shows.
I’d love to a comment from Jerry Brown.
I am sorry for the LaBianca family, this must be hard for them.
It may be she thinks she wants out, but psychologically speaking she may end up wishing she wasn’t released......we shall see.
Most prisoners released in their 70s would probably be out of luck, following five decades behind bars. This one, though, will probably end up living in Bill Ayers' guest room. Perhaps not literally, but you get the point.
Are they gonna release Tex now
And Krenwinkle?
This follows a pattern I noticed a couple of years ago in New York: prisoners in their 70s getting paroled from life sentences so the corrections system doesn’t have to cover their health care costs.
There is a lot of interest in Manson family stuff. She could probably go on a speaking tour or make a documentary. Not sure how much of the money she could keep, if proceeds from selling crime stories are confiscated. But as to her time spent at the various houses they lived, stories about Chuck etc maybe she can get around it and keep the cash.
Yep. I liked the happy ending and ass-kicking aspects of the film.
I can't agree with that.
Patricia Krenwinkle will be out next.
