CNN Host: We Should Yield to Government Censorship Demands
Jonathan Turley ^ | 7/6/23 | Jonathan Turley

As a long-standing free speech advocate, the last few years have been alarming and, frankly, depressing. The censorship efforts of the government are, unfortunately, not new. However, what is new is the support of the media and the Democratic Party in such censorship. That was on display on various channels after the recent opinion finding that the Biden Administration had violated the First Amendment in “the most massive attack against free speech in United States history.” However, the New York Times immediately warned that the outbreak of free speech could “curtail efforts to combat disinformation.” Yet, no one expressed more simply and chillingly than CNN Chief White House Correspondent Phil Mattingly who stated that it “makes sense” for tech companies to go along with government censorship demands.

Mattingly admitted that social media platforms “more often than not” gave in to the censorship demands by the Biden administration. However, he insisted that it “makes sense,” and is “probably what we should do on public health grounds.”

“[T]he Biden administration would regularly reach out to Twitter and Facebook and other companies in kind of the early stages of their COVID response and say, this person is spreading lies about vaccines, this account is spreading misinformation that is inhibiting — not just our efforts, the administration’s efforts to address COVID — but also public health, do something about it. And often, I think more often than not, the companies would respond and say, okay. And there are emails that came out during the course of this case that that was something that I think — when it was explained to me at the time, I thought, alright, that makes sense, that’s probably what we should do on public health grounds.”

How are “the constant lies they tell us”
not disinformation?

I’m sure Mattingly’s position would be the same had it been the Trump administration censoring, right? 😳

You have to believe you are the smart one and those stupid people who disagree with you need to be silenced to say something like this. One has to wonder how spoiled a childhood he had to have to believe in his holiness.

What a load of hooey, because Turleys hand wringing needs to be converted into something like Samuel Adams would say back in the days of the Sons of Liberty.

Imagine Mr. Famous gets a vaccine on January 20 and dies on February 1st.

The first part got publicized and the second part can’t be hidden.

I asked many people about their vaccine experiences before getting jabbed.

CNN Host: We Should Yield to Government Censorship Demands

And by "we" he means "all of you", because he and CNN are already part of Government Censorship.

Younger people generally have better immune systems than old folks.

They’ll have less need for vaccination (except for diseases that often kill young people) and greater reactions to vaccination.

All that is basic medical knowledge and is fairly well known.

People my age (62 at the time) or older readily got jabbed.

People younger than me (under 60) were far less likely to want to get jabbed.

A “news” company without Correspondents, just readers of the government announcements..... sounds like a major cost savings! 🧐 Maybe CNN has found a way to make money....

It takes time to make eight billion vaccine doses.

The most needy should be the first to get doses, therefore the less needy folks will have time to research a new vaccine by reading and asking questions.

The research studies were too small to accurately measure severe long-term vaccine side effects, which should be expected to be very rare.

The way to fend off “misinformation” is with accurate information.

[[However, the New York Times immediately warned that the outbreak of free speech could “curtail efforts to combat disinformation.”]]

An “Outbreak” of Free Speech- gosh, they sure seem afraid of free speech- There won’t be an ‘outbreak’ of it as we have the right to free speech and are using it- what the NYT wishes is that this right be rescinded, and everyone fall into line like good little communist citizens and do whatever the gov tells them to do

I bet his tune changes to one of “Donald Trump is suppressing free speech” IF Trump were to become president and do what mattingly suggests (Not that Trump woudl do so, but IF he did)- mattingly the hypocrite woudl be screaming about censorship then of course

The effects of bad public policy are often large and not easily hidden.

The UK government can’t hide high UK housing costs and millions of migrants.

What happens when Trump is reelected and he wants the entire Democrat party censored for anti-American speech? Maybe fine CNN billions for their lies to the American people and going against the entire premise of the first amendment. I’m sure Mattingly will go along with that. /sarc
