OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush said in an old interview that he preferred not to hire veteran submarine pilots or technicians to keep his team "younger" and "inspirational."
Rush, who died in June on board his submersible, the Titan, was speaking with executives from Teledyne Marine, a marine-equipment manufacturer. While the interview was undated, a recording of the video meeting was published by Teledyne in August 2020, according to metadata seen by Insider.
The recording has been deleted, but Insider reviewed an archived version.
In the video, the Teledyne executive Matt Burdyny told Rush that he accompanied OceanGate on a submersible dive in Puget Sound, Washington, and commented that many OceanGate employees were fresh graduates but seemed professional.

I’ve seen nothing to make me think that this disaster needs to be laid off on the team driving the sub. Looks to me like total responsibility belongs with the person who had it built and the way he had it built.
He hired a surfer dude because he liked his stories or something
In the overall scheme of present reality, it really doesn’t matter.
The dead Titanic voyage is merely a means to get eyes. It is in fact trivial nothingness
“He hired a surfer dude because he liked his stories or something”
I’m not sure the laws of physics and materials are willing to take into account one’s “life story”.
Several people tried to warn him of the risk.
One woman engineer said his hubris was the problem.
That kind of mentality got himself and 4 other innocents killed.
Woke kills everything it touches either spiritually or physically
His quote was worse .
He did not want to hire 50 year old White Guys .
Oh course he was one and second
he just fired one an expert that said his craft was a Death trap .

Stockton Rush was a psychotic narcissist, but now he’s dead.
There’s nothing as inspirational as making it back safely
Some years ago, education departments at severals universities wanted to create a major, education engineering.
An engineering program run by the education department.
I wonder if those programs ever started up and what the graduates of those programs are doing.
Well, the answer to that question is very well known
Education engineers design and construct tenured ivory towers
That’s a shame.
I guess he couldn’t handle the pressure.
I’ll see myself out.
My guess? It was complete BS. He was just covering for the fact that he was running out of cash. IMHO, he was either (1) unwilling to dilute his shares by selling a chunk of his company to a wealthy investor or (2) unable to attract investor interest in a very niche business that might never make a dime. So he cut corners in hiring, knowing that an experienced submariner would not only not go along, but also go to the media about the safety problems he was ignoring. When the wreckage of this company is examined, I expect you will find it was on the verge of financial collapse.
Clearly there is something crazy about playing these silly games when life and death are at stake, but maybe he was just one of the thousands of trivial, careless people in positions of authority today .
I'm not sure this is technically correct. I would suspect, although it's really a matter of nanoseconds, the Titan ceased to exist as anything but a collection of parts, before the ill-fated crew died...ergo there was really nothing left for them to be, "on board," although they would have never known the difference.
Alas, within weeks he was seen in public consorting with a much younger employee, and someone at the top started to question just why he was so hot to hire "young talent." He left while the leaving was good, and his plan disappeared down the memory hole.
