I don’t think that any crew member is held culpable for the vessel failure. They should have consulted old men with slide rules who designed subs in WWI and WWII that returned from their missions.

Apparently no one could tell him anything once the cyclic damage was occuring.
From several accounts he was warned repeatedly that the vehicle was no longer safe to those depths.
I just watched the I-52 exploration last night. It is at 3 miles down. Wow
Repeated dives in proper vehicles. Don’t know if they used both vehicles.
They are now decommissioned and on museum display.
