Moscow Says 700,000 Children From Ukraine Conflict Zones Now in Russia

Russia has brought some 700,000 children from the conflict zones in Ukraine into Russian territory, Grigory Karasin, head of the international committee in the Federation Council, Russia's upper house of parliament, said late on Sunday.

"In recent years, 700,000 children have found refuge with us, fleeing the bombing and shelling from the conflict areas in Ukraine," Karasin wrote on his Telegram messaging channel.

Russia launched a full-scale invasion on its western neighbour Ukraine in February 2022. Moscow says its progranme of bring children from Ukraine into Russian territory is to protect orphans and children abandoned in the conflict zone.

However, Ukraine says many children have been illegally deported and the United States says thousands of children have been forcibly removed from their homes.

Most of the movement of people and children occurred in the first few months of the war and before Ukraine started its major counter offensive to regain occupied territories in the east and south in late August.

Maybe they got confused and ran the wrong way. Or maybe they were just rounded up and taken to Russia. Do we really know?

“More like rescued.”

Agree, the other option was to give them umbrellas and hope it protected them against Ukrainian shelling of civilian areas, particularly in the City of Donetsk.

I suspect they were being rescued as well. It seems this whole war is a cover for the evil going on in Ukraine, and Russia appears to be fully aware.

Gozzi, Laura (16 March 2023). “Deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia is war crime - UN”. BBC News. Archived from the original on 18 March 2023. Retrieved 20 March 2023. “Russia’s forced deportation of Ukrainian children to areas under its control amounts to a war crime, UN investigators have said.”

During the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Russia has forcibly transferred thousands of Ukrainian children to areas under its control, assigned them Russian citizenship, forcibly adopted them into Russian families, and created obstacles for their reunification with their parents and homeland. The United Nations has stated that these deportations constitute war crimes. The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for President of Russia Vladimir Putin[5] (who has explicitly supported the forced adoptions, including by enacting legislation to facilitate them)[6] and Children’s Rights Commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova for their alleged involvement. According to international law, including the 1948 Genocide Convention, such acts constitute genocide if done with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a nation or ethnic group.

Ukrainian children have been abducted by the Russian state after their parents had been arrested by Russian occupation authorities or killed in the invasion, or after becoming separated from their parents in an active war zone. Children have also been abducted from Ukrainian state institutions in occupied areas, and through children’s “summer camps” on Russian territory. The abducted children have been subject to Russification; raising children of war in a foreign nation and culture may constitute an act of genocide if intended to erase their national identity.

Ukrainian authorities have verified the identities of over 19,000 abducted children, compiling and actively updating the data as part of an online platform: “Children of War”. Russian authorities have claimed that over 700,000 Ukrainian children have been “evacuated”, and Ukraine’s ombudsman on children’s rights believes that the actual number of abducted children may be in the hundreds of thousands.

In 10 years they will own everything in Ukraine, and American 175B will have only served to put a boarder on NATO.

The Pro-Putins will absolutely turn a blind eye to murder, rape, bombings, child trafikking, etc. They are as amoral as their leader.

Might=right so of course they’re into child trafficking, invasions, conquering other countries, etc. It’s all about exerting power and authority over others to compel them to serve their own amoral purposes.

——Pro-Putins-—

They will not turn a blind eye. The Freepers in question not only condone but cheer the Russian Crimes against Humanity perpetrated by Vladimer Putin.

Aiding and abetting Russian war crimes is for them self esteem enhancement

Most were abducted.

Refugees from the east of Ukraine came here to Poland - Russian speakers, some who considered themselves originally ethnic Russians.

But all of them fled to the west, not to Russia. And they brought their kids with them.

And those who considered themselves ethnic Russian before the war were so disgusted by Putin that they no longer consider themselves ethnic Russian

"In 10 years they will own everything in Ukraine"

Nope - they lost their chance in March 2022. Zelensky (who is a putz otherwise) stopped that when he refused to leave. This heartened the Ukrainians to fight off the invaders

i've lived in Poland since 2010 - and known Ukrainians before that (some I worked with, some were cleaners, workers, etc):

If Putin's decapitation plan in Feb 2022 had worked, then him taking over or vassalizing most of Ukraine would have happened - with little of a fuss

But that didn't work - in fact the opposite happened

if the west stops ALL weapons, monetary aid etc. tomorrow, Russia is not going to be able to take over eastern Ukraine, leave alone all of Ukraine. They might be able to hang on to their ill-gotten gains from Feb 2022

Ukrainians now have a reason to fight, a sense of "self" that they didn't have in 2013
