There Is No Choice Left: Russia Will Have To Launch A Nuclear Strike On Europe
RIA Novosti Russia ^ | 6/25/2023 | Sergey Karaganov

Posted on 06/25/2023 11:06:35 PM PDT by Nextrush

For seventy-five years of mutual deterrence, nuclear weapons have saved the world, and people just got used to it. Now we see with our own eyes that nuclear weapons no longer stop, because the unthinkable is happening: the West has unleashed a big war in the underbelly of a great nucler power...

At some point, we also calmed down, went in line with Western theories and recklessly raised the threshold for the use of nuclear weapons, which the West is now using for a reason. There all the time, semi-officials emphasize: no, the Russians will never use nuclear weapons. They want us not to even raise this question under any circumstances, as if clearing the way for them for an endless war in Ukraine. But given that their military-industrial potential is higher than ours, they just want to wear us out...

I want to believe that our opponents will come to their senses. Because if not, then the military-political leadership of Russia will face a terrible moral choice and the need to make a difficult decision. But I believe that our president must at some point project his determination to use nuclear weapons...

the use of nuclear weapons is a monstrous step, it should be avoided if possible. But, as the vector of the West, its elites and society, their movement towards anti-human and post-human values shows, all this indicates and objective approach to a big thermonuclear war. We must interrupt this process and thus save the world- if possible, of course, avoiding super-tough actions...

Why nuke anybody when you can buy a Democrat U.S. President for $10M?

You might add that Putin, engaging in short term thinking, encouraged Russophones in the Donbas to rebel, and create their own tinpot statelets. Only later did it occur to Putin that by subtracting the Russophone voters of Crimea and Donbas from Ukraine, by force of arms, he had insured that, for decades, at least, Ukraine would never have a pro-Russian government, unless it was imposed, and maintained, by Russian bayonets.

Does Sergey Karaganov know that the French* and British** also have nuclear tipped missiles? These missiles are aimed East.

Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) still applies. An attack on a nuclear state by another nuclear state guarantees a nuclear attack back at the initiator.

Moreover, most of Europe is part of NATO, which the United States is part off.

Would Russia seriously consider nuking Europe but leave the USA with all its nuclear weaponry alone?

Sergey Karaganov would not survive his fantasy.

*France is estimated to possess approximately 290 nuclear weapons, of which about 280 are deployed. The vast majority, or approximately 240, are deployed by the French Navy, which maintains a continuous at-sea presence via its nuclear-powered submarines1. This posture ensures a secure second-strike capability in the event of a nuclear attack1. France maintains the third largest nuclear weapons force in the world.

**Of the 225 UK warheads, 120 of are said to be operationally available for delivery by Trident II D5 submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs), with about 40 being carried on a nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine (SSBN) that is on patrol at all times.

Xi told Putin back in their Nov 2022 meeting that China is absolutely against a first strike use of nuclear weapons and any support they give Russia would stop if they used them first.

TAIPEI — Chinese leader Xi Jinping made his most direct criticism yet of Vladimir Putin’s war on Ukraine on Friday, warning the Russian president not to resort to nuclear weapons and calling on visiting German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to push for peace talks.

Xi’s warning comes just over a month after Putin threatened Ukraine with a nuclear attack, a sign of how far Ukrainian forces had rocked the Kremlin with their advances against invaders in the East.

The international community, said Xi, should “jointly oppose the use of, or threats to use, nuclear weapons,” according to a statement carried by Xinhua, China’s state news agency. The world should also “advocate that nuclear weapons cannot be used, a nuclear war cannot be waged, in order to prevent a nuclear crisis” in Europe or Asia, Xi added.

The Chinese leader, who just weeks ago secured a norm-breaking third term in office, asked Germany and Europe to “play an important part in calling for peace and facilitating negotiations.”

Now is a good time to read the history on how national leaders led their nations into the Great War or as it is known today WWI.

Misunderstanding the situation, wishful thinking, believing the other side would back down, not knowing the reasons why they could not back down (secret treaties) and so on.

Prior to WWI most wars were limited (mainly because of technology, or lack of, and the great distances between nations). WWI changed all that and the world lost an entire generation of men. No one at the time expected the war to be as long and terrible as it turned out.

I can not predict the future but I can predict once the genie is let out of the bottle, there will no going back.

Don’t let Lyndsey Graham see this article. He’ll need to change his panties he would get soo excited. He has a real war boner. Never met a war that didn’t visibly excite him.

Wars always start with the aggressor believing it will be over quickly.

If Russia nukes us, that bear will regret it!

Geez... I've seen everything lately. I hope FReepers can put this in perspective, and not advocate a nuclear attack on their homes, families and friends.

Remember when Reagan showed that bear in his famous "Morning in America" campaign ad? I cheered for the USA then and still do. I certainly didn't go wobbly in my knees over the "bear" like a deomcrat.

We waited out Obama and got Trump. They took it from him. He WILL win it back.

Show some GD spine!

The lot are crazy stupid idiots, they can and will do anything stupid thinking will make their situation better.

Only they will bring ruin on them and their entire 14 Century feudal empire that runs a broken down gas station with nukes in the backroom.

Good point - I would also point out my own experience, having lived in Poland since 2010.

From 2010 to 2014 the Ukrainian workers I met (ranging from IT workers to house cleaners etc.) were nearly universally “meh” about Ukrainian nationhood.

That changed a bit in 2014.

But, since 2022 February, the number of Ukrainian patriots has gone up heavily.

Also, many Russian speaking Ukrainians now refuse to speak that language and have switched to Ukrainian (the two languages are about 60% to 80% mutually comprehensible depending on the dialect.

Putin in fact has MADE the Ukrainian national sentiment far, far stronger

Nope, the USA didn’t attack anyone in 2014 - rather Russia invaded Ukraine in 2014

imho it wasn’t WWI and it wasn’t purely technology.

The Napoleonic wars also had many killed.

And so too were the Autumn and Spring wars in China.

I think the difference is “wars in the time of democracy has more people FEELING the cause”. Prior to Napoleon it was the house of Bourbon v/s the house of Hapsburg - big deal. But then it became “France v/s Austria” etc. etc.

Had russian stuck to its borders and promoted its economy with all its vast resources, made course corrections in regard to corruption then Russia could have been very prosperous.

Instead putin and his dreams of expansion, coupled with very bad intel gives us what we have now

So true.

As I pointed out in my answer above, Putin's 2 invasions of Ukraine has really boosted the Ukrainians self-identity.

If, from 2000 onwards, instead of threatening, he had focused on building up his people (and Russians can be very intelligent) and coupled it with soft-power, he would have brought Ukraine and Belarus willingly into Rossiski Mir
