Arrest Made After Months Of Silence In NJ GOP Councilwoman’s Murder

Police have arrested a suspect nearly four months after a New Jersey Republican councilwoman was gunned down in her car as she was nearing her home.

Rashid Ali Bynum, 28, was arrested and charged in the murder of 30-year-old Eunice Dwumfour, who was shot and killed on the evening of February 1. Dwumfour and Bynum knew each other from working together at Champions Royal Assembly, a Nigeria-based prosperity gospel church in Newark, police said, according to ABC 7.

“This was a very complex, extensive case with painstaking police work every single moment until today and it will continue after today,” Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone said at a press conference attended by Dwumfour’s family members. “The murder has shaken the community and no arrest will bring back the late councilwoman.”

Bynum was taken into custody in Chesapeake City, Virginia, where he lived, and he will be extradited to New Jersey, where the suspect will be held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional facility until his pre-trial hearing. The suspect was caught on surveillance footage fleeing the scene after the shooting, according to Ciccone. The prosecutor also said that Bynum’s phone indicated that he had traveled from Virginia to New Jersey at the time of Dwumfour’s murder.

The suspect allegedly searched online for information about Dwumfour’s church and the town where she lived, the New York Post reported. Bynum is charged with first-degree murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun, and second-degree possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose.

Eyewitnesses said they saw the gunman run toward Garden State Parkway after firing multiple times into Dwumfour’s vehicle. The councilwoman’s vehicle traveled around 100 feet before hitting two parked cars. Ciccone did not provide any motive for why Bynum allegedly targeted the Republican councilwoman.

The case went silent for months as authorities held no press conferences, and the prosecutor’s office requested an injunction to block news outlets from obtaining important information about the investigation. In March, the councilwoman’s parents expressed frustration at the lack of developments from the investigation into their daughter’s murder. The family’s attorney also said the lack of info from authorities on the case was “mystifying and troubling.”

Dwumfour was elected to the Borough of Sayreville City Council in an upset victory over her Democratic opponent in 2021. She was also a business analyst and part-time EMT and was heavily involved in her church.

The Republican councilwoman was the oldest of five children born to a Ghanaian family. In December, Dwumfour celebrated getting married to a Nigerian pastor. She was also the mother of an 11-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.

Bynum is a fine old American family name. But Rashid Ali is probably the result of some Muslim kick that might actually be the one thing worse than the typical alphabet soup black American names. Of course, no actual African Christian would be caught dead using a Muslim or an alphabet soup name on his children. The African-born young lady he did away with had a classic Greek name.

No, this was a murder for hire. Perp didn't even know where she lived, had to find it on Google Maps. Perp traveled from Virginia to New Jersey to kill her.

The victim was a Godly Christian woman with a family.

Months passed while conservatives were in the streets blocking traffic with placards, shirts and hats with slogans, fires in oil drums and shouts and chants over bullhorns day and night.📢😡🤬😠✊👊🤜🧨🧨

Uh, wait, I was thinking of the crowds for a police involved justifiable shooting of a career criminal person of color. My mistake.

Everything was calm and quiet about this woman’s murder.

May she rest in peace.

Reposting other details:

Police “tracked the phone and his rented vehicle from Virginia to New Jersey and back around the time of the slaying.”

The suspect has a long criminal record including credit card felony and forgery.

The family’s lawyer is wondering how the suspect would’ve known Eunice’s schedule. Was someone else feeding him information about when she was coming and going?

I’d be surprised if it were religious. There’s a large subset of blacks who give their children off-putting names (in the American context) for thoroughly whimsical reasons. Muslim names are especially egregious, given the history of antagonism between Christianity and Islam. They’re the one name category worse than alphabet soup black names, which are just head-scratching (e.g. LaTrina), but undeniably and exclusively (black) American.

They were part of the same church. My guess is he made a clumsy pass, she was out of his league and she politely declined. He moved, couldn’t get over the rejection, decided to exact payback for her disrespect. You get the same thing with every demographic group, but incidences are likely far higher among blacks because sky-high self-esteem leads many to think of personal failure as not just unfortunate, but unfair and cause for violent retribution.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3263756/
[Large-scale representative surveys of 8th-, 10th-, and 12th-grade students in the United States show high self-esteem scores for all groups. African-American students score highest, Whites score slightly higher than Hispanics, and Asian Americans score lowest. Males score slightly higher than females. Multivariate controls for grades and college plans actually heighten these race/ethnic/gender differences. A truncated scoring method, designed to counter race/ethnic differences in extreme response style, reduced but did not eliminate the subgroup differences. Age differences in self-esteem are modest, with 12th graders reporting the highest scores. The findings are highly consistent across 18 annual surveys from 1991 through 2008, and self-esteem scores show little overall change during that period.]

Looking further down the page, it appears the guy had an extensive criminal record. So she was so far out of his league, she was on another planet. And this is yet another way in which hanging out with career criminals can be risky and occasionally fatal. You might think of them as children of God whom you can help change their ways. Some view you as their next mark.

This is the really tough aspect of charity work. I have known people who had vocations to help the poor, become worn out and depressed, because of the constant trickery.
