"We'll protect him if he does the right thing," Politico reported one of the House Democrats involved in the talks said.

Once again, I was being rhetorical. I’ll keep my thoughts to myself now.

Let us hope that the Freedom Caucus does as they promised to do in January.
That would end his speakership.

Jeez… now it’s beginning to sound like the Texas House of Representatives Speaker Dude Phelan’s modus operandi… pull in Democrats to SUBVERT the wishes of most Republicans.

Wow! Who didn’t see this screwing coming? I seem to recall a small group of conservatives that didn’t want McCarthy as speaker because he was way too conservative. Wait, no, oh yea, not really a conservative at all.

I will argue that the Republicans have made a strategic decision not to fight this battle that they will ultimately lose when the government shuts down.
Similar and even the same objectives can be achieved elsewhere with no such consequences

“decision not to fight this battle that they will ultimately lose when the government shuts down.”
You do realize that the government would not shut down. The government takes in enough money to fund every major program and 95% of the rest. What is being talked about is a little fraying on the edges (the waste).
The Debt Limit is an illusion and an establishment/media lie. This outcome was determined months ago.
See for yourself and advance the video to 2:43.

Stop it how? They've given the commies everything they really want; they've been told to make like they're oh so disappointed as they go to vote in favor of it. Even with zero Republicans voting for it, it will pass. That's how big a screw job it is.
The Republicans can vacate the chair or whatever but that's not a big deal. The commies have gotten what they want and McCarthy has proven that he is one of them and not one of us, and always has been.

The only way to beat the Democrats is to humliate them. If this passes with some Democrat votes, Biden and the media will claim total victory.
To: lightman; vivenne
Yeah, the Republicans stick together en masse and vacate the chair, so what? The damage has been done and that's that.
McCarthy will cry all the way to the bank.

I believe it was Einstein who said, "compound interest is the most powerful force in the universe."
