The chief of Russia's Wagner mercenary group Yevgeny Prigozhin has admitted that Ukrainian forces have counter-attacked Russian positions around Bakhmut - as the warlord mocked Kremlin defence minister Sergei Shoigu.
'The situation on the flanks is shaping up according to the worst predicted scenario,' Prigozhin said, signalling fresh misery for Putin's troops.
'Those territories, which were taken with the blood and lives of our comrades-in-arms for many months, every day, by tens or hundreds of metres are now being thrown almost without a fight by those [Russian army soldiers] who are supposed to hold our flanks.'
Prigozhin then directly addressed the long-suffering Shoigu.
'Given your super long experience, please can you come to Bakhmut?' he asked sarcastically, poking fun at the defence minister's civilian background in engineering.
President Volodymyr Zelensky sought to manage expectations around the pushback in Bakhmut, telling reporters the long-awaited Ukrainian counter-offensive was yet to begin in earnest and declaring: 'We still need a bit more time.'
But Prigozhin retorted that Zelensky was being deceptive: 'When Volodymyr Zelensky said [the counter-offensive] hasn't started yet, he was economical with the truth.
'It is going full steam ahead - Ukrainian units are attacking successfully.'

Poor Prigozhin, the UA offensive in his area is not using many Western weapons - just one or two units, here and there.
A large group of the 72nd settled for surrender, while it was the Wagners who fled first.
Once Russia has been ejected from Ukraine we should be able to drastically scale back our presence in Europe. The power of Russian conventional forces was vastly overestimated.

I've said the same thing numerous times. The MIC lied to us for decades, exaggerating Russia's capabilities so they could enrich themselves. China is most likely a paper tiger as well.
For additional recent proof of their likes, look at how many times they went before congress and told them the Afghan army was well-trained and ready to defend the country, only to fold within hours of our withdrawal.
All lies, all for money (and lots of it).

Not only our presence but perhaps our funding too. This whole fiasco has really exposed how weak Russia really is. Russian fighter jets have been downed with hunting shotguns. Entire Russian battalions are equipped with nothing but shovels to fight with. They ran our of ammunition including heavy munitions in less than 2 weeks. Hell Ukraine captured over half the old Russian armor without firing a shot. It is becoming more and more obvious with this debt ceiling issue that perhaps our military budget should get heavily cut to help balance things. Between Russia’s lack of equipment and Putin’s terminal cancer it sounds like our new elite LGBTQ operators could concur the whole country in a week with a fraction of our current resources.
The Olympic school (1) has been captured by the Wagner forces after a couple of weeks fighting. Now the Wagner forces has eliminated the last remaining ukrainian stronghold north of the last ukrainian defence line (blue line) outside of the "Citadel/Nest" (large blue circle). Within the "Citadel/Nest" Wagner forces has taken two more high rises and are just now taking a third in the eastern part (red circle 2).
Green shaded areas are contested. In the west Wagner forces can now focus on reaching the ukrainian defenceline in the SW. Within the eastern Citadel/Nest the goal seems to be encirclement of ukrainian forces in the east by capturing School No 12 (yellow circle)

yup...call a cease fire...let the boundaries of the referendums stand...and stop the damn killing on both sides. russia has had crimea for 15 years now...and u didn’t really care...now...all of a sudden they’re sacrificing millions of people to prove what.
