Ron DeSantis loses again to Disney
Vox ^ | April 20, 2023 | Nicole Narea

Florida Republican Gov. DeSantis has been foiled by Disney once again.

The new board DeSantis appointed to oversee the company’s Orlando theme parks has discovered a new wrinkle in its plans. The board’s chairman said Wednesday that another “11th hour agreement” was signed before the board took over that allows Disney to set its own utility rates for its resorts through 2032. By that time, DeSantis, who is term-limited and cannot run for reelection in 2026, will be long gone.

It’s the latest development in the ever-expanding culture war between DeSantis and Disney executives, who angered the governor last year after they publicly opposed his “Don’t Say Gay” law, which prevents teachers from talking about LGBTQ+ issues or people. That fight escalated last month when it came to light that Disney had managed to quietly disenfranchise the new board without DeSantis’s allies taking notice, and has continued as the governor tries to clamp down on the company in retaliation.

DeSantis’s efforts to punish Disney for being “woke” have become a political headache, with his potential 2024 Republican presidential primary opponents, including former President Donald Trump and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, using it to go on the attack. But at this point, DeSantis is probably in too deep to retreat.

This is what happens when the swamp fights back.

DeSantis reminds me of the kid whose parents always let him win at chess only to find out later that he was never really all that good. He just never had any real competition before.

Isn’t this old news? I read that the board found a loophole in the fine print.

They may very well beat DeSantus, as they have the best lawyers. There is no law on the books that could cause me to pay money for their products, however.

Just what have you - or Trump - done? This “11th hour” stuff is probably totally illegal based on Sunshine laws and requirements to make changes after public notice.

Maybe not. We’ll find out in court. Looks more like a desperation move by Disney than a flaw in what Florida has done under the pushing of DeSantis.

But why are you upset with DeSantis? Are you another Trump Soy Boy whose afraid of open debate?

DeSantis will say whatever he thinks will get him elected, so he’s “right” now, after which he would go center and if elected do what his corporate donors tell him.

He’s a politician. Trump is different.

The leftwing MSM is now joining Trump in attacking DeSantis.

They understand that Trump, the Pfizer-Disney candidate, is a sure loser but DeSantis might possibly defeat them.

I’m in Florida. DeSantis kept Florida open during the plandemic. Ron kept us out of unfunded federal mandates, like expanding Medicare which makes medicine and treatment more expensive for those not covered by Medicare. Ron has fought the constant threat of liberalism in medicine, education, and wokism. As an analogy you don’t know if the fact that there’s a cop standing on the corner has prevented crime or not. But life is pretty good here. Imagine what the alternative was, Andrew Gillum. Those of us in Tallahassee knew all about his down-low lifestyle and money stealing ways, but it was kept out of the news until one of the other guys in the hotel room published a photo of Gillum naked and unconscious in a pool of his own vomit. You might not be happy with DeSantis, but he’s a miracle worker compared with what we might otherwise have. Given what I’ve seen of other Democrats, any Republican no matter where he is on the spectrum, is better than any Democrat because there is no depth to which a Democrat will not plunge.

I think everyone fears DeSantis. And this is old news as it appears the Disney board played rather loose with the laws before they were released. I doubt their moves will withstand court challenge. And either way, don’t ignore DeSantis overall successes. But, alas, I know the remaining Trump supporters fear an adult conservative that doesn’t spend his time bad mouthing everyone.

Disney is growing revenues.
But I am glad we never took our kids to Disney.
The kids enjoyed 16 cruises before going to college.

You are the sure loser pal. DeSantis’s biggest problem are those who have been sending him 7 figure checks. He is the candidate of Jeb, Mitch, Lindsay, Ryan, Rove, and every other deep state RINO Demopublican. President Trump should not waste his breath trying to give him grief... it is counter-productive.

We were saved from Gillum by the skin of our teeth.
I now love living in Florida and like our governor.
But I will vote for Trump in primaries.
1. Trump built the wall even with swamp fighting him.
2. Trump imposed tariffs on China which helped reduce trade imbalance
3. Most important Trump kept us from wasting blood and treasure in foreign wars.
