Best Buy Co. is cutting store jobs across the country, as the electronics and appliance retailer works to lower costs and shift its business as more sales happen online.
This week, many store workers that specialize in selling more complex products such as computers and smartphones, dubbed "consultants" inside the company, were told their jobs would be eliminated, according to people familiar with the situation.
The decision affects hundreds of jobs across the more than 900 U.S. stores that Best Buy operates, the people said. The tasks performed by consultants will be moved to a smaller number of similar roles and affected employees can reapply for open positions within the company or receive severance, the people said.

Amazon.com’s showroom.
Sad, but true.
Biden’s economy..
This is a huge marker because Best Buy is one of the few brick-and-mortar retailers that were immune to recessions or inflation (TJ Maxx and Home Depot being the others). If they’re laying off, then this economy is in its death thralls.
Or...shoplifting out of control.
Those always seemed like strange stores. I was never comfortable in one.
The new reality of how America is shopping at home and not going to stores in or out of malls.
I remember how great Fry’s was back in the 90s. My last trip there was a few years ago, and it was sad.
Yeah the Doofus Squad didn’t really add much value.
Same here.
You get 10 to 20 times the selection online, find what you want in minutes, read what other buyers think of the product, get next-day delivery, better prices, and no going store-to-store-to-store for hours trying to find what you want. So many stores have cut inventory and the stock on shelves is pretty thin, so it’s hardly worth the trouble.
Think about all the devices that were made obsolete by cellphones.
I guess it’s Progress.
I can’t say I miss shopping, it was a necessary evil. But there once was a social aspect to it.
People had lots of money with Trump. Energy policies dropped the price of everything. New phone? No problem.
Not so much with libtard nation.
Now everybody has their iPhones, and it will be at least a few years before they will need to upgrade, as the technology has matured.
This is unfortunate. When shopping for items such as cameras, cell phones, computer equipment, etc.I like to pick up the item and handle it to see if it’s right for me rather than reading the specs or looking at pictures on the computer. And when I purchase the item, I can walk out of the store with it and not have to wait for it to be delivered and maybe be stolen by porch pirates if it arrives when I’m not at home.
I just got back from Target for some staples and nearly got run down in the parking lot by a fast, careless driver. I yelled at him and got a big “FU” in return. I thought he was going to come back to finish me off.
It was a great social interaction.
I must say the cashier I had was super friendly and kind as can be. So I’m batting 500 today.
Best Buy suck...The sooner they go under, the better.
