You get 10 to 20 times the selection online, find what you want in minutes, read what other buyers think of the product, get next-day delivery, better prices, and no going store-to-store-to-store for hours trying to find what you want. So many stores have cut inventory and the stock on shelves is pretty thin, so it’s hardly worth the trouble.
Today at least a third of the storefronts are empty and you never see many people there. I don't see how it can survive much longer.
