With little fanfare, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed legislation Monday allowing residents to carry a concealed loaded weapon without a permit.
DeSantis signed the bill in a nonpublic event in his office with only bill sponsors, legislative leaders and gun rights advocates, including the National Rifle Association, in attendance.
It was a notable departure for a governor who regularly holds splashy news conferences and bill-signing ceremonies.
Florida is now the 26th state to pass some form of permitless carry legislation. The signing comes one week after six people, including three children, were gunned down at The Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee.

So does this mean illegal aliens can conceal carry since licensing is no longer required? How does this law make us safer in Florida? Who is it that was being inconvenienced or frustrated in an attempt to obtain a concealed weapons permit under the requirements of the previous law? I don't think the Founders anticipated the states being overrun by foreign nationals who are also by definition inveterate lawbreakers. And I don't see who benefits by this. It's the same argument the liberals use against voter registration laws, only now it's conservatives using it against concealed weapons permits.

Few people open carry.
It gives away that you are carrying, which is to your disadvantage.
What such laws do, is protect those that carry, i.e. the jerk calling the cops because they see a gun on someone that is licensed to carry.
Little will change because you seldom see folks open carry even where it is allowed. BUT it works to the advantage of those who do carry and no longer need to worry about the concerned anti-gun Karen.

Again, the Sarah Brady - Pete Shields - Diane Feinstein - Charles Schumer rhetoric comes out.
Literally.
You are making EXACTLY the arguments those people have made since the early 1990s. In fact, they made that argument against Florida’s “Shall Issue” concealed carry permit system, back when it was proposed.
And they were wrong.
Every.
Single.
Time.
Illegal aliens and other criminals don’t give a shit about the law. You know that. They know that. And the nonsense flows anyway.

Speaking as a Florida Concealed Carry Permit holder under the old law, the argument from my standpoint has been, if carrying a weapon is your Constitutional Right guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment and numerous Supreme Court decisions, then why do you need permission from the Government to do it.

How about reading the law. If illegals couldn’t carry before, they can’t carry now.
The new law just takes away law abiding people requiring a permission slip to exercise a right.

Pretty sure the law says that if it is legal for you to own a handgun, you can carry it concealed without having to ask the state’s permission, get fingerprinted, pay fees or pay for 8 to 16 hours of ‘instruction’.
Green card holders (legal aliens) can legally buy and possess. Illegals cannot.
That is not to say that illegals won’t be concealed carrying, anymore than they were before the law was signed.

“Few people open carry.”
Whoopee. It’s not the business of a state to restrict the right of lawful citizens to open carry if they so choose.
Also, Florida has long allowed open carry without a permit so long as you are going to or from hunting or fishing.

The benefit is when over-zealous police officers take the "concealed weapon" law too far and aggressively prosecute gun owners because part of their coat went over a gun.
I don't see where illegal aliens come into this - gun freedoms are for American citizens. In Arizona we have had it with no problems and also concealed carry permit which allows more leeway in certain situations.

"Quietly". No different from any other law, but it's about those icky guns, so you have to spin it negatively, dont'cha know.
As for the law itself, once again, DeSantis deliveres -- promises made, promises kept. Hmmm... who else have we heard that phrase applied to? Just trolling the 'Trump or die!' folks... ;-)

The fact that criminals have no idea who is carrying but know that many are, improves safety.
Ever notice that lions pick obviously different or weak individuals to attack?
They attack whatever looks out of place, or different. They have a much harder time making up their minds when every animal in front of them looks exactly like the rest.

DDS is no different than TDS. Desantis did something, therefore DDSers will come up with arguments that it’s bad. Such is the state of politics in 2023, though this one was a little embarrassing on a site like FR. Good to see most freepers sticking to their guns (and values) in this thread.
