The last murder was over forty-three years ago. October 1969. The Zodiac killer is likely long, long dead. I say that because the kind of guy who does that sort of thing likes to be in the news. The reason they caught the BTK killer was he hadn’t seen any stories about himself in a while and started sending letters again. They caught him while he was emailing from his church where he was a deacon. He had no idea that people could identify the location of a fax or an email. But the point is, this kind of guy likes the publicity. If he isn’t getting the publicity, he’s either in jail for something else or dead.
I thought they found him and he’s been dead for like 20+ years?...................

I expect one of Zodiac’s intended victims killed him and then because it was California had the presence of mind to keep quiet.
Rader originally put the police on to himself because of metadata associated with a "deleted" file on a floppy disk he sent to a local TV station. This led investigators to get DNA data (from his daughter) that was a familial match to DNA from one of his victims.

Within the last couple of years, the cypher he left behind was solved. It survived for several decades before being cracked.
I wonder if they have any DNA from him. If so, it’s likely they can determine his identity.

Apparently the SFPD was able to develop a “partial DNA profile” from the adhesive under a the stamp on one of the letters he sent in which he identified himself as “Zodiac.”
So far, a dead end. Although it may have eliminated some of the other “possibles,” I’m not sure.

“They” are always wrong. Last killing was a year before Ted was born. But hey, why not?
