Ford plans to drop AM radios from most of its new vehicles starting in 2024, raising concerns about public safety communication. The automaker had previously announced plans to drop the AM radio from its electric vehicles due to “interference” between the electric drive train and AM reception.
The Detroit Free Press reports that beginning in 2024, Ford will no longer offer AM radio in the majority of its newly released gas and electric-powered vehicles.

Another reason not to buy a Ford.
THAT is the target.........................
Gee, where are many of the Christian radio and conservative talk shows broadcast from??
Yep. Talk Radio IS THE TARGET.
Self imposed problem
MLB will have something to say about this - Most Major league games are on AM
I don't think I want a car that can be disabled or interfered with by an AM radio signal. "Electric drive train" means no physical/mechanical connection between you and the car aka drive by wire. I don't want one of those either.
Its about limiting information. Be interesting to see how Ford came to make that decision.
I miss the 8 track. A couple of CW Mcalls and George Jones could get me across the country in the good ole days . 10-4 good buddy!
“I don’t think I want a car that can be disabled or interfered with by an AM radio signal.”
I think it is probably the other way around my friend. The electric drive probably zaps the radio like having all eight sparkplug wires bad rendering AM reception too noisy.
EV is going to be the death of AM...
I listen to the Reds games on 680 AM in Louisville when I can’t watch them on TV. Don’t think they play them on FM. A dumb idea. Ford’s competitors will bring this up.
(When I wrote dumb idea, I accidently left out a space and got bidea. That almost spells Biden. Speaking of dumb ideas.)
Words that need repeating: “Another reason not to buy a Ford.”
Ford should go the way of the horse.
I have a Toyota truck with 250K miles that still costs me almost nothing in maintenance besides oil changes, brakes and tires
Toyota doesn’t hector me about going electric, they haven’t gone “woke,” and they are more sensible with their hybrid plans.
I love the fact that my car has a factory DVD player. When the car’s in Drive you only get the audio but it still is good at times for long drives.
a little copper in the motor housings solves the problem.
during the early 80’s I worked for a swiss owned firm that made custom servo motors. we ran into a similar problem with motors causing interference, added some sprayed on copper into the material alloy requirements for the case, problem solved. This servo motor was for an armored turret drive motor of 30hp. It was initially was interfering with radios inside the turret. The other fix would be to put copper mesh on the outside, but we didn’t want a new part # in the maintenance chain for the vehicle.
Didn’t Toyota’s CEO recently make comments about EVs being foolish?
