On Thursday, Florida lawmakers filed a bill that would allow Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) to run for president without having to first resign from the governor’s office.
Current state law mandates that if DeSantis were to run for another office, he would have to resign from his current post in order to do so, as reported by the Epoch Times.
The bill, Senate Bill 7050, was filed at 6:08 p.m. just roughly thirty minutes after news broke that 45th President Donald Trump will be indicted by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D).
The filing comes after Gov. DeSantis took a stand for President Trump against the unjustified indictment, taking to Twitter to decry the “anti-American’ nature of the political persecution.
“The weaponization of the legal system to advance a political agenda turns the rule of law on its head,” DeSantis wrote. “It is un-American.”

WATCH: TRUMP TEAM RELEASES POWERFUL VIRAL AD IN RESPONSE TO INDICTMENT
“The Soros-backed Manhattan District Attorney has consistently bent the law to downgrade felonies and to excuse criminal misconduct,” he explained. “Yet, now he is stretching the law to target a political opponent.”
“Florida will not assist in an extradition request given the questionable circumstances at issue with this Soros-backed Manhattan prosecutor and his political agenda,” DeSantis added.
While DeSantis has yet to announce an official run for the presidency, many took his recent book tour as a shadow campaign as the Florida governor crisscrossed the country to tell conservative audiences about his model of leadership.
While the Florida legislature is getting ready to lay the groundwork for DeSantis to run for the Republican nomination, Trump’s indictment likely overshadows its importance.
I’m right there with you.
I liked seeing how Trump made all the right enemies in office—in stark contrast to the way he was accepted in liberal world when he was just a developer, businessman and television personality. Then in office when he made America and American citizens his priority, I was right there with him, too.
More strongly with him now, in fact.
YES,
I’m sure you have noticed that FR is changing lately with posters pushing hard for DeSantis.
Are Never Trumpers more prevalent here now?
DON’T COUNT YOUR CHICKENS BEFORE THEY HATCH
They already planned to do this. I don’t believe it’s a good idea to change the law so one man can try to run for another office after just getting reelected but that’s on FL
Meatball needs MAGA voters.
At this moment he does not have a lot of them as indicated by recent polls.
In the movie Good Will Hunting, there’s a scene where Robin William’s character, a psychologist, asks Matt Damon’s character, Will, about why he chose the wrench beating over the belt from his abusive father.
Will answers “Because f___ him”.
I’ll be voting for Trump because f___ them.
I found it really strange … and it seemed to have a weird homosexual vibe about it.
I’ve noticed that I don’t see that thing on FR home pages anymore.
If they turn him to El Cid, I'll get the horse.
What is going on on is not election preparation It is an epiphany. PTrump is hated because he is for US. He is for world peace.
Very sleazy.
As a FLORIDA VOTE For DeSantis I will say that IF He stiffs us like the rino I hope he isn’t it will be time for me to cut off any hope for a real Conservative and just get it over with once and for all and vote for the worst progressive democrat on the ticket. SOOOO tired of this qwap!
“Do you think the NeverTrumpers are looking forward to seeing Trump’s primary polling numbers skyrocket in the coming week?”
Obviously, you are not a never-Trumper and therefore you do not understand TDS.
TDS is illogical
See, this is what separate us from you Ronlims, in the way that humans are separated from simians, because only a simian could conjecture this can "damage" or "wound" President Trump, when Trump has survived more in one lifetime than you could endure for one week, droop. Like, say, another banning.
Good luck.
I doubt DeSantis is that dumb.
If he actually runs, he’s over.
I am VERY dismayed by this self-serving legislation, and am hard-over opposed to it!
As a matter of fact, I believe that there should be a nationwide ban on running for higher office while holding down a lower office: YOU WANT TO RUN FOR ANOTHER OFFICE, RESIGN YOUR CURRENT OFFICE!
I have no problem with DeSantis running for POTUS, but NOT while he is Governor!
Either be the Florida Governor, or campaign for President!
YOU MUST NOT DO BOTH, RON!
We Florida taxpayers do not want to pay you WHILE YOU ARE OUR SERVING GOVERNOR to run for POTUS!
You need to let the Republicans in the Florida House and Senate that you will veto this legislation if and when it is passed!
If you want to remain credible, stop this, NOW!
“And you’d be cheering Trump for it.”
NO, I WOULD NOT!
I prefer my presidential candidates to not
be aligned with the Bush family.
Hard pass on DeSantimonius from me…
And, a “damaged, wounded Trump” will kick Democrat ass!
TRUMP WILL BECOME POTUS 47!
LBJ was an epic election cheat. That’s why JFK wanted him on the ticket. He had a Houston machine.
—> my Primary vote, at this point, is going to Vivek,
Has he converted to Christianity yet?
