DeSantis’ Reedy Creek board says Disney stripped its power

LAKE BUENA VISTA — Gov. Ron DeSantis’ handpicked board overseeing Disney World’s government services is gearing up for a potential legal battle over a 30-year development agreement they say effectively renders them powerless to manage the entertainment giant’s future growth in Central Florida.

Ahead of an expected state takeover, the Walt Disney Co. quietly pushed through the pact and restrictive covenants that would tie the hands of future board members for decades, according to a legal presentation by the district’s lawyers on Wednesday.

The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District’s new Board of Supervisors voted to bring in outside legal firepower to examine the agreement, including a conservative Washington, D.C., law firm that has defended several of DeSantis’ culture war priorities.

“We’re going to have to deal with it and correct it,” board member Brian Aungst Jr. said. “It’s a subversion of the will of the voters and the Legislature and the governor. It completely circumvents the authority of this board to govern.”

Disney defended its actions.

“All agreements signed between Disney and the district were appropriate and were discussed and approved in open, noticed public forums in compliance with Florida’s Government in the Sunshine law,” an unsigned company statement read.

Karl Rove/Bush supported RINO Governoperator-Trump imitator DeShanctimonious has caved, by draggung his feet.

Where would Dizzby transgender corp move to...in what state will parents accept their children being sexually assaulted by Mickey Mouse dress ups? Georgia?

The stink surrounding this is upscale. I hope Trump reveals it to all during his campaign.

““That declaration is valid until “21 years after the death of the last survivor of the descendants of King Charles III, king of England living as of the date of this declaration..”

“That’s hilarious.”

Maybe not, given the UK’s Ukraine policy might mean that the clock could run out on the deal in about 21.1 years.

If DeSantis puts Bush people into his campaign team, then he is a RINO, right?

Oh, I don’t doubt that other places are courting Disney. I’m trying to understand the convolutions on the other end of the statement.

Nah, let them have a paved road. Just put in speed bumps every 10 feet. For safety. And traffic circles. Lots of those.

Depends who, and at what level, since it’s difficult to find Republicans who DO NOT have a linkage to Bush.

“Appropriate. Really? Referencing the King of Great Britain and his descendants?”

Like in all contracts, it provides a clear definition of the duration of the agreement.

You don’t think chasing out Disney would hurt DeSantis? Badly?

Where is the Rotten Rat going to go? Florida has the best overall weather, everywhere else has snow, tornadoes, or boiling hot summers.

“Where is the Rotten Rat going to go? Florida has the best overall weather, everywhere else has snow, tornadoes, or boiling hot summers.”

On the other hand, you get 8 months of hot weather in Orlando, and 4 months of really hot/humid weather.

In my opinion, having a more comfortable climate in the summer, when kids are out of school, would be preferable.

Basically, lots of places with much nicer summers, although you lose 4 months or so due to winter.

Anyway, it’s just usually not too smart to think you have someone cornered, as it often doesn’t end the way one hopes (ask the UAW about that, regarding car production).

And strongly enforced 15 MPH speed limits everywhere else.

DeSantis was getting nervous, since losing Disney is the end of his political career.

The overwhelming majority of we Floridians approve of what DeSantis has done for the state and want to see him stay on as Governor in 2024--especially for what he's doing to expose and dismantle Disney and the teacher's unions efforts to groom and corrupt the minds of children.

Where are they going to go, Mexico? They can’t leave a red state because of the crime rates in blue states. Who would go to Disney World in the winter, or spend four times more money? Or get robbed and beaten while on vacation? Look at the development time line for that monstrosity when it was built. Now imagine building that thing in Illinois. You would have a better chance building a brand new nuclear reactor alongside an oil field that refines onsite. No way, they are stuck!

My (totally unsupported) theory is that Disney was looking at offers, from other states, and DeSantis was getting nervous, since losing Disney is the end of his political career.

(yea, I know, it’s ‘too big to move’ - have a look at Detroit if you still think that)

You are certifiable. Move Disney World out of Florida? Just as easy as moving the Ever Glades out of Florida.

The US auto industry got beat because they became fat/lazy and over unionized and Detroit is still there, but it's looking like a demonRAT run shithole.

DeSantis may have some political problems, but Disney moving BILLIONS OF DOLLARS out of Florida ain't one of them.

Your 'theory' is totally unsupportable because you fell and hit your head and lost all common sense.

Mrs. Bobl must be having a tough time spoon feeding you broth and soft foods...get better...I'll pray for a quick recovery.
