Garland refuses to examine civil rights claims of Jan. 6 defendants: ‘I don’t know anything’

Garland said defendants' lawyers should make the argument in court that they have been held for too long.

Attorney General Merrick Garland on Wednesday declined a request to examine whether the civil rights of some Jan. 6 defendants have been violated due to the lack of a speedy trial and said it's the job of their lawyers to make that argument in court.

At a House Appropriations subcommittee hearing, Rep. Andrew Clyde, R-Ga., said he toured the D.C. Department of Corrections last week and met with some of the 20 prisoners still being held because of their participation in the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol Hill riot. Clyde argued that detaining these people for so long violates the 6th Amendment to the Constitution, which guarantees the right to a "speedy and public trial."

"You work to uphold the civil rights of all Americans," Clyde added. "I think in this case, their civil rights are being violated, and I would appreciate you looking into that." A report from Just Security this month said 11 of the 20 being held have not accepted a plea agreement and have not been brought to trial, while the other nine have been convicted or have pleaded guilty.

But Garland didn’t commit to examining the defendants’ cases, and instead argued that their lawyers have the right to argue before a judge that their 6th Amendment rights have been violated.

... said it's the job of their lawyers to make that argument in court.

In other words, it is NOT the government's job to know the law ....

RE: ‘I don’t know anything’

Last time Garland admitted that was during his law school final exams.

Do you trust the sources on this one? Hadn’t seen it before and it’s over a week old... Wouldn’t Special Forces ‘liberating prisoners’ in the middle of NYC from Feds make the news?

From what I can tell, most of those lawyers are PD’s that are sympathetic with the government...

“... said it’s the job of their lawyers to make that argument in court.”

And the attorneys have attempted to make those arguments, the prosecution has denied such has happened, and the judge has agreed with the Government. The judge has even allowed evidence to be withheld from juries due to the prosecution arguing it reveals “methods and procedures” or some such foolishness.

“Garland said defendants’ lawyers should make the argument in court that they have been held for too long.”

Make each and every defendant spend money on lawyers fees over the same civil rights issue?

Trump’s GOP Senate denied Garland the holy grail of lawyers: a seat on the Supreme Court.

Like a jilted lover, Garland will move heaven and earth to Eff over those of the party who did him harm.

“argued that their lawyers have the right to argue before a judge that their 6th Amendment rights have been violated”

Uh huh. So their recourse is to complain to the judge that is violating their rights that he is violating their rights.

“”I don’t know anything””

I don’t WANT to know anything.

There, fixed it.

Without a conscience and a soul, DemoKKKrats are capable of anything. They think everyone is as soulless as they are. Power Greed Control are their mantras, their world. .
