Canada's population grew by over a million people for the first time ever last year, the government has said.
The country's population increased from 38,516,138 to 39,566,248 people, Statistics Canada said.
It also marked Canada's highest annual population growth rate - 2.7% - since 1957.
The increase was in part fuelled by government efforts to recruit migrants to the country to ease labour shortages, Statistics Canada said.
The country also depends on migration to support an ageing population.
But Statistics Canada said the surge in the number of permanent and temporary immigrants could "also represent additional challenges for some regions of the country related to housing, infrastructure and transportation, and service delivery to the population".
International migration accounted for nearly 96% of the population growth, according to the news release.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has made efforts to attract more immigrants to the country since gaining power in 2015. Last year, the government announced a plan to welcome half a million immigrants a year by 2025.

One million Canadian immigrants means 900,000 future immigrants to the USA from Canada.
Nine of the eleven players on Canada’s Men’s soccer team were foreign born. In fact most of them became Canadian citizens JUST to play for the team. Most of them have been Canadian less than 10 years.
To call that team “Canada” is a total joke. They are paid mercenaries, like the foreign legion. Once those player careers are over, they will immigrate to the USA. That’s what most of Canadian immigrants do anyway.

I wonder how many of those so-called immigrants are military age males who left their women and kids behind.
Those immigrants aren’t there to support an aging population.
They’re there to support Canada’s Deep State.

The aging population seems to be a recurring theme. I wonder if people decided not to have children because they were heavily taxed and felt they couldn’t afford to have children.

Belgium,at one time,had at least one colony in Africa (the “Belgian Congo” IIRC).
None of those countries produce enough people to drive immigration - moreover why would people in all the countries you list leave their wonderful home countries anyway?
When Canada has a natural disaster how many countries offer to take Canadians same goes for the US ? LOL
These people will leave Canada in two years or less, six month Winters pretty much suck.
So, his Imperiousness, Justin(e) Castreau, the Prime Mistake of Canaduh, is continuing to re-inforce that situation by importing as many poor, uneducated, third-world immigrants, who are hostile to Western values, as he can!
Interesting aside to his actions. We have accepted hundreds of thousands of Syrians over the last few years. Of that group, less than 1% are Christians. Refugees get $40k, housing, free dental care, health care, and free prescriptions. They also get free language training and training as health care aids, etc. GouvFedCan fast tracks them to become citizens in just a few years.
Contrast that with Ukrainian 'non-refugee' refugees. They get $3,000 and are allowed to stay for 3 years, maximum. They are NOT considered 'refugees' in Canaduh. Of course, many more Ukes are Christians, than the Syrian refugees. Ukraine (and Russia, truth be told) has a much more 'Western-centric' culture than Syria.
So if you REALLY want to destroy your country, bring in hundreds of thousands of uneducated immigrants who don't share your country's values, religion, nor culture, and eventually, make them citizens!
