A large majority of Americans in a new poll said they find it believable that former President Trump paid adult-film star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election to keep her from talking about an alleged affair between the two.

Seventy percent in the Reuters-Ipsos poll released on Tuesday said they find the allegations at the center of the Manhattan district attorney’s probe into the former president to be very or somewhat believable.

While most Democrats — 89 percent — said they found the allegations believable, while 50 percent of Republicans also agreed that the claims against the former president appeared likely, the poll found.

How many believe that this is something that should involve the legal system and criminal charges? Why no poll on that?

Doesn’t Congress have a slush fund specifically for that purpose?

Nobody doubts that he paid her for an NDA. However that is not a crime.

The only crime here is that a corrupt DA and the media is trying to say that it is.

Congress paid out $17 million in settlements. Here’s why we know so little about that money.

At least they used TAXPAYER money instead of campaign funds...

Hush money? It has never happened before, not before Trump came onto the scene.

believable and true are two completely different things.

Paying hush money is not a crime.

Yeah, he paid off an escort, so she wouldn’t be a problem in an election from his own pocket.

And?

The media can get the public to think that paying “hush money” is a crime. After all, Nixon did it (or his lackeys did) in the Watergate scandal. Trump says the affair never happened—I don’t know who is telling the truth but he has a better record for telling the truth than Stormy Daniels. Even if it is a total lie, it would have hurt Trump before the election because millions of people would have assumed the accusations were true. Now the media is laying the groundwork to get the public to approve if Trump is arrested.
