Radio giant SiriusXM is slashing hundreds of jobs in what the company says is a cost cutting measure.
In a note to SiriusXM employees on Monday, CEO Jennifer Witz said the company will cut eight percent of its workforce, amounting to some 450 jobs, after a recent review of the outlet’s business.
“We are entering into a new phase for our Company. The investments we are making in the business this year, coupled with today’s uncertain economic environment, require us to think differently about how our organization is structured,” Witz said.
The CEO said SiriusXM in recent months had identified areas in which it could “limit discretionary spending to minimize the impact of any additional needs for staff reductions.”

If they talk for 5-10 minutes an hour, that is a12-15% reduction in music play time, per hour. That’s a bunch of ASCAP fees they don’t have to pay.
Agreed. I don't want to hear a DJ flapping his flews any more than I want to hear commercials.
XM was good once upon a time...but now my phone can get any station I want anywhere in the country.
This says they had 5600+ employees. That is a LOT!

It sure is. Wonder how many are used to monitor content for “disinformation”, bias, insensitive remarks, etc?
I imagine a lot of subscriptions were cancelled due to budget tightening measures
That many people means homos and lesbians are hiring their butt buddies for almost no show jobs
I hope they go out of business. I signed up for a six month subscription for a summer-use car that I own. I paid via check because I didn’t want auto renewal. The car is in storage all winter here in the Northeast. After my six months, in the fall, I started getting mailings from Sirius. I kept throwing them in the garbage because I didn’t want to start up my subscription again until the spring. Turns out they auto-renewed me and were sending me bills. They couldn’t get any money out of me because I had paid by check. So they turned me over to a collection agency. Boy did I have a fun time ripping them apart over the telephone. Will never use their service again.
It seems like a lot but they have a lot of channels to manage. Howard Stern probably has a staff of a few dozen just for himself. Someone has to program all the music playlists. Someone has to produce all the podcasts etc.
I never thought it was a viable business long term as people get cars that can stream the internet from their phones why subscribe to radio? That is why they paid big bucks for names like Howard Stern and Joe Rogan - Joe eventually quit and went to Spotify which is probably a much leaner operation. Not much to produce just keep every song ever made on some servers and let the customers make and share their own programming.
Why is it still alive. I have spotify and am happy with it
Bingo. Do you how many times I have told Rachel Steele to stifle it? Or that Alan Hunter?
Howard Stern isn’t as successful as people think he is.
Yep we tried to cancel, had them on the phone, they would not cancel, kept offering free stuff, they even did the “Let me turn you over to my supervisor”.
No thank you please cancel.
No thank you please cancel.
No thank you please cancel.
No thank you please cancel.
No thank you please cancel.
Finally they did cancel.
They could cut the Cr*p discussion between songs.
Hopefully they canned the idiot Jose Mangin, and that communist whore Tom Morello.
Work from home clowns hit hardest. So I would think. Don’t show up, well we don’t know you.
“Howard Stern isn’t as successful as people think he is.”
I doubt he has even one third the listeners he used to. But due to his contract, he is still raking it in (tens of millions annually) while sitting on his Covid paranoid butt in his Palm Beach mansion.
The annual renewal tango with their customer service department is also super annoying. It goes like this.
1. SiriusXM sends me a renewal bill at full list price.
2. I call, feign outrage, and threaten canceling the subscription.
3. Customer service rep magically finds me a promotional price that is roughly the same as I’ve been paying.
4. I renew for another year until the tango begins anew the next year.
Anyone else do this?
I switched over to Sirius b/c I travel by car a lot - and the local AM talk radio that I had been listening to has become unlistenable due to mountains of ads.
Love their music stations - and of course, Dr.Laura.
From your lips to their hepcat ears...
They should
Every station plays the same 40 songs over and over and over and over and over and.........
