Sirus/XM will soon go the ways of the Buggy Whip. I still have them as I have no cellular service at the property, and each time I try and cancel they give me a 50% discount for the next year. Once retired, so will they be.
Yes, exactly the same for me and the wife. We set a reminder on the phone calendar to know when to call and dispute the new charges.
I tried to cancel my subscription. It was a tough decision because it’s the only thing that plays in my car. When I travel for hours, I don’t want to listen to static.
So I called. They tried to keep me with lower offers. I didn’t budge. Then they offered the same one year deal at $45 for 12 months.
I accepted.
Obviously they’re overcharging if they can give out such a low price.
I recall years ago on this very same FR forum proclaiming how dumb I thought people were for actually paying for radio. Well, the jokes on me, I guess. I’ve now had Sirius XM for quite a few years and really enjoy it. I listen to Channel 63 (Christian) almost daily. Often, I have it on in my workshop for the better part of the day. Nothing else like it. I absolutely hate commercials. Hate ‘em. To me it’s worth paying not to have idiotic commercials or, worse — far worse — hearing infuriating political ads.
So, I am now one of the dumb ones who has been paying for radio. Channel 63 and their anchors are absolutely terrific. But yes, in listening to some other channels, the DJs do seem to like to hear their own voice more and more. By the way, I refuse to pay for Howard Stern and my subscription reflects that.
If you move one station over in the other direction, you get to listen to Tom Petty radio (channel 31). My car is set to that one, so I listen to it most of the time. I love the different Heartbreaker players shows, and the Buried Treasure show, and of course, the Last DJ show. Rarely do I feel the need to change it if I’m just out running errands. Miss Tom and I’m glad I can still hear his voice and his laugh when listening to his old Buried Treasure shows.
Of course, on longer trips, we move around the dial. When it’s college football season, and we’re on the road, we tune into whatever games are of interest.
We got busy and forgot this year. Need to set a reminder for next year.
My car syncs up with my phone and plays from my personal music library. No commercial, no DJ, just music.
i got the sirius xm 3 months free trial when i bought my new toyota tacoma last october...
never used it...
they keep sending me emails to reactivate it for $5.00 a month...
Traffic channels gone. Apps like Waze are
out there.
Apple CarPlay is probably destroying the company.
I have a choice right now and I’m going with Apple CarPlay.
I could see a need if I regularly was driving in areas without cell service, but not on a regular basis.
I used to listen to that when I was on the road 3 days a week. I cannot remember the last time I listened. It’s either Fox Biz, or the music channels.
Simply having this discussion makes me question my listening subscriptions.
I download music from youtube using 4K Video Downloader https://www.4kdownload.com/35 then convert to .mp3 https://www.freeconvert.com/convert/video-to-mp3 and then copy to my cell phone. If you have a video editor it probably has a convertor.
I use “Movavi Video Suite 22” TIP: If you install the trial then start the uninstall process they will give a big discount to buy : )

I use bluetooth to connect the cell phone to the car radio. My Honda Accord 2016 has controls on the steering wheel where I can change to am/fm/bluetooth and volume controls. If you do not have bluetooth you can buy a inexpensive plugin that uses what was once called the cigarette lighter or you may have usb charger. Plug in and listen on your radio. Yikes! The same people have a free downloader /// That downloads YouTube videos straight into MP3 format. I have used this for podcasts on YouTube. I downloaded a 3-hour one the other day from bitchute. So far I know it works for YouTube and bitchute videos

Rather than using your delicate phone, buy a Sandisk MP3 player. You can walk or exercise with it. Might find a better deal on eBay or Best Buy

GREEN! Harder to lose >>>>>
Hopefully they cut the Stormy Warren guy who does mornings on The Highway. What a full of himself blowhard. You almost never hear any music in the morning because he’s always blabbing about this and that. Just let Marcie (with an “ie”) do the show and play the music.
My wife and I have never subscribed but we have been bombarded with snail mail and email advertising for years and years.
If they go belly up we will be celebrating.
Great thread—lots of interesting comments and suggestions.
If the women on the Rock channels would just shut up and play music like the old XM days maybe they wouldn’t be losing customers.
No reason why they should not have a classical channel dedicated to Baroque only, or only just to Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart.
The Opera channel is awful. Nothing but Metropolitan Opera (NYC), most of the recordings from the James Levine era - serial child abuser.
